does anyone know why my ABS light would be on? I would think that i have some type of problem with my brakes. I just put on my new wheels and tires. COuld that have anything to do with it?

 

I don't believe that just adding new rims and tires should activate your ABS light.

What size tires did you get?

 

i wouldn't be too worried about it. mine comes on after i have been driving about 30 min on average.i think its because the abs module in our cars goes bad often . next time you start your car, listen under your hood for the abs pump. it sounds like a cow mooing. or in my case it sounds like a cow being tortured. if it keeps running for more then 10 seconds then u might have the same problem. but like i said...dont worry too much, my brakes always work great!!! hope this helps

 

The wheel sensors go bad... and they are very sensitive, so putting the new wheels on may have jarred something loose and one bit the dust.

Your brakes are gonna work just fine, untill you find a deer in the road and have to slam on your brakes, they are gonna lock right up probably leaving you with a nice flat spot on your nice new tires. I found the abs codes on this site (I forgot who from), search for them and you should find how to go about diagnosing the system.


LCARUCA 97- How would you know what a cow being tortured sounds like???

 

Mine came on last week along with the handbrake light...
It came on in the middle of a highway..

I went to the dealer on friday and they find out that its my brake fluid pump?!?! (or something like that) on one of my back wheel.

They said the car should not be driven as the brake may go out anytime...
Luckily, I bought the extended warranty
But not so lucky this time.. they only give me a 1.7EL as courtesy car (FYI: last time, I got RSX and the other time, go my insurance to rent me SLK320 )

So, you may want to get yours check out.

 

Well the same thing happened to me.........went on after about 20 minutes so i took it into the shop.........they flushed my abs fluid but it sstill made that gay sound so they told me i needed a new ABS modulator and so i called my extended warranty company and they verified that they would cover it so i only had to pay the 100 dolar visit fee and they covered the $1200 abs module. Any questions? ask me.........

 

my ABS light is not lit up anymore. it's really weird.

i went to my mechanic and he said it was prob because of the new wheels and tires and nothin to worry about.

one of the guys there tried to tap into the abs wire so the light would turn off but he couldn't do it. the light remained on for two days and now is off.

Thats the good part. THe bad part is that my temperature control is no longer working. I suspect its because the guy was messin with the wrong wires and shorted somethin or bllew a fuse.
