Abs?

you know when you first start the car it does something with the ABS (makes a noise, and i used to think it was some sort of diagnostic), but anyway why would it do it randomly when i'm driving and then the ABS light comes on
any ideas?
thanks

That sounds somewhat familiar, you might check into a search on warped rotors, and I think the 97 has issues with the abs control unit.

abs pump

when that happened to me it was my abs modulator. the dealer installed a new one for me and it was under my extended warranty which by the way is not useless because it went bankrupt but that's ok i got 3 transmissions out of them before they went

that's normal -- mine now does it when i'm driving, and sometimes the ABS light comes on when it's done moaning.

it is the abs pump or modulator. Take it to the dealer and I hope you have a warranty. Muine was very expensive to fix.

Its a very good chance that you suffer from the same problem a lot of cl owners have faced: bad ABS module. something in it goes bad and causes the pump(which is the mooing cow sound heard when the car starts up) to overrun. Once this happens, the system is disables and the ABS light will illuminate. If you want to find out what the exact problem is, use the instructions on niedejb's site for further help.

look here too

Before you spend money

try refilling the abs resevoir. on the passenger side near the front of the car, there is a resevoir for your abs system, it has a rubber cap covering a plastic cap that you pull out, anyway add brake fluid here before you spend any money for a mechanic.

(say close to when u hit like 80,000 miles) or, doesd it just go out at random?? My 97 3.0 is at 96K and i DONT have 1G to pay for that...i hope mine dosnt deside to go out on me!

My shit just started last week only every now and then the mooing -but no abs light - it just started doing it more and more and then the light would come on
now as soon as i start the car and it goes through it's intial mooing (but much longer now) it stops and then the abs light )-:
i'm at 119,000 miles
i don't have a 1000 either - it's gonna be ghetto abs unless discotigre's idea works

I've got 80K and it's been going on for a while now. I topped off the reservoir and it went away, but came back a month later. Checked the level again and it looked fine. $1000. I will never pay that. I think I actually like the mooing noise - very soothing.

just like normal operation
