i dont know much but you have to bypass it.. i dont know what to do w/ this but wakeboardfusion gave me this a while ago.. hes posted it a few times..
that should get this started...i actually have no clue what to do w/ this information.. :shakehead
EDIT: this is for the bose amp, if you dont have bose, i dont think you need to change anything
Right Frount Speaker- +Yellow goes to Gray with Blue line
- Brown goes to Blue with Gray line
Left Frount Speaker- + White goes to Red with Gray line
- Orange goes to Brown with Black line
Right Rear Speaker- + Blue goes to Brown with White line
- Black goes to Red with Yellow line
Left Rear Speaker- + Red goes to Blue with Yellow line
- Green goes to Gray with wlite line
if you add aftermarket speakers remember to clip the tweeters

if you're installing head unit only, you dont need to bypass anything. when you put in the head unit, connect the remote turn on wire (solid blue) coming from the head unit to the power antenna wire on the radio harness (blue w/ white stripe) before its connection with the factory radio harness. the cars remote turn on circuit is actually what the power antenna wire connects to on the aftermarket harness.

1. Your deck will work fine with the Bose amps No Bypass needed...
2. What power antena? There is no freaking power antena.
I had one on my Integra, fucking hated that thing. It always jamed and made horible noise... so I pulled out the mast and cut the stupid spiral off so it would just sound like the fuel pump was kicking in or some shit... before I cut the mast spiral, it made this grinding sound... SUCKED! Glad the CL has a hidden window antena.

damn im confused. everybodys saying different stuff. so i guess tomorow ill just spend the money on a harness and install kit and just find out myself. has anybody had any experience with this?

hey,
if you have a bose, your gonna have to bypass it, see above post....if no bose, just buy the adapter harness and it's good 2 go...but the bose system needs the amp bypassed, the stock head unit has different output than a regular head unit, thats what the amps are for.....i've learned if your gonna replace the head unit, just replace the damn speakers....the bose ones work on 2 ohms where as normal ones work on 4 ohms, so the output could possibly be a little distorted

Ok, you need to chop all the wires off of the wiring harness, going into the amp, then splice them back together, half are going in, half are coming out. That is why it says this wire to that wire. You have to splice both positive and negative ins to the ous, hence bypassing the amp. Make sense?

Tip from MULK is correct ,I am a certified Circuit City installer/ installation Manager for 10 years and in any honda/acura 1990-2000 with bose all you have to do is buy a metra 701720 or 701721 harness and wire your aftermarket radio color to color, the alpine radio has a blue white wire which is a amp turn on wire which has to be connected to the blue white of the metra harness. The only difference is the output of the alpine is higher than the oem radio so you may have to refrain from cranking the volume to full output. I only suggest bypassing when a complete system is being installed.

oh its down there! nice pic jamz..
i hope thats right, i gotta free sub/amp and im too cheap to buy new speakers. ive heard that on acura bose they ARE NOT 2ohms.. can anybody confirm this? i was told by another guy @ best buy if you have a 2ohm capable amp you can run that to make the speakers work, and i have one sitting in my room..

Does anyone know if the 99 CL has it? i changed all the speakers and the head unit. So my volume control on the steering wheel doesn't work anymore. i've looked at where the location of the amp is and it's not there.

All aftermarket harnesses have a blue wire (remote turn on for amp(s) ) and a blue/white wire (signals your power antenna motor, IF you have one). the aftermarket harness is only the wire harness in between the back of the aftermarket head unit and the factory plug that goes to the original head unit. for some reason, the blue/white wire (power antenna lead) connects to the Bose amps remote turn on wire on the factory plug. The new head unit will only give power to the antenna lead when the radio is on, because otherwise it would put the power antenna down when you listen to a CD, therefore, if you just plug in the aftermarket radio without splicing the wires correctly, your radio will work, but you cant listen to CD's. This is why you need to connect the solid blue wire to the blue/white wire, so that a positive 12V is always going to the remote turn on circuit for the Bose amp.
Regarding the compatibility issue... in Bose systems, the only things that are different are the speakers and the addition of an amp, the head units in the non-premium CL's are identical. Therefore, they must have a 4 ohm output, because in non premium CL's they have 4 ohm speakers, non Bose. The Bose amp accepts a 4 ohm input signal, from any head unit, and has a 2 ohm output to the Bose speakers. So if you bypass the amp and have your head unit's 4 ohm output connected directly to the Bose 2 ohm speakers, then you'll be screwed.

thanx everybody. i tried what mulk said and it worked perfectly. just the output is way louder just like jims3.0 said. so its pretty loud at around 8 on my alpine. but the thing is, i have a kicker L7 and an amp laying around. i'm thinking about installing these but im just worried about bypassing the old amp. somebody who knows how to do it should make a DIY. hahah... i would really appreciate that. but if not, who else can do it? im not sure about best buy or circuit city so yeah. any info would help me out alot

Works perfectly! Thanks for the help.
I was told it couldnt be done but I just read this and I wired it up tonight. I installed my Alpine CDE-9881 head unit with iPod adaptor to my factory Bose stereo and it sounds better than stock! Lost my steering wheel controls but gained a remote control.
Thanks again!
