97 steering wheel removal help

97 steering wheel removal help

Got stuck removing the steering wheel in my 97, I read the entire DIY guide but it is for the 98-99 and I can't figure out how to get the right hand side cruise control buttons off the wheel, so that I can remove the right hand side Torx screx for the air bag. Anyone have any clue how that thing comes off? I've more or less tried everything that I can think of at this point....

the cover pops off and there are screws under it. took me awhile to figure out how to get the cover off as well when I put the cl-s wheel on my 97

yea ive been pulling at it all types of ways, are there just clips in their or what?

what i mean is that ive been pulling and pushing on the cruise control buttons pretty hard but the cover stays in place, like its not budging??

It's usually on there really well...... try putting small screwdriver under the cover below the set button and above the resume. Pry them away from the buttons then away from the steering wheel.

finally got it off, cracked it a little in the process, thing does not want to come off at all. got the steering wheel aligned straight now, but still doesnt solve my problem of my car not being able to turn left well. as in my car doesnt make a very tight left hand u-turn but i can turn right very well. seems like i cant turn my steering wheel as far left as i can right??

that damn cover was the hardest part of the entire swap when i did mine...hated that thing

did it make turns correctly before? if so, and nothing changed with the steering wheel, I would point to something else

If you couldnt turn very far left before the new steering wheels was put on it might be wise to go get an alignment check. If your caster is out enough on your left side it will effect you being able to turn so far. Plus it's always good maintenance to get an alignment lol.
