97 3.0 CL needs new rear rotors & brake pads
Hi guys,
Need some advice and recommendation for rear brake pads and rotors for my 97 3.0 CL. Took my car to the dealership to have the oxygen sensor replaced. They also suggested that I get new rear brake pads and rotors. They gave me a quote of $531 for the rear brake pads and rotors (all OEM - labor included). Is that too much? Should I stick with OEM parts? I've looked at the offerings from Tirerack.com, but I am not too knowledgeable about this stuff. So please leave me your advice and recommendations. Thank you.

Even if you choose to go with OEM rotors/pads, you don't have to have a dealer do the work. Perhaps you really like this dealer. If it doesn't matter, and you know a good mechanic, have them give you another estimate. At least you'll have a comparison on price.
$531.00 for rotors/pads seems high, but that's a guess. Having someone else (even Midas) give you an estimate would be a good indicator of whether or not the dealer's in the ballpark. Doesn't Midas offer a lieftime warranty?

530 is absolutely rediculous for pads and rotors..
you can get an aftermarket cross drilled rotor and it will
stop better
never warp
no shaking when braking at high speeds
and they will cost you about 80bucks a rotor
as far as break pads just go w/ a semi metallic or metallic pad
-Labor for this work should not exceed 100$ if so i would say your getting raped

No doubt, $75 - $80 for rotors is not bad, but get the organic or ceramic pads. They create less dust and wear better under hard breaking situations. I am looking to buy some Brimbo rotors for my 3.0. My fronts are warped and I hate to shake whilke I brake.

ENGAGE MY VTEC BABY!!!!!!
i paid 250 for pads and rotors from the group buy a long time ago, and that is shipped, you can PM me to give you the address to the guy who was selling them to see if he has snything left
but 530 is too much for rotors and pads installed, the 97 i can understand since they have to be pressed on and off the bearing

Today I called Earth Auto Care in Springfield, VA. They quoted me $80 for total installation labor charges. I am considering the PowerSlot Power Slot Rotors and the Akebono ProACT Ceramic brake pads from Tirerack.com. Will they be decent on my car or even perform better than the stocks? If I buy the items from Tirerack then I will have to pay ~$240 (including shipping). Add the $80 labor charge, and it comes to a total of ~$320. A whole lot less than the $531 I was quoted at the dealership. Thanks again for all your suggestions.
