9005 conversion 90% done

Newbie here. After searching the site I found out how to do the 9006-to-9005 conversion for the headlight bulbs. I just got done modifying the bulbs and need to put the bulbs in the car. I'm using Silverstars. More when I come back from the garage...

I did it to my moms car for practice, she doesnt need to know. Took about 5 minutes max per bulb with just a razor.

A razor would work. I used a soldering iron and a knife. The difference is huge switching from 9006-to-9005. The road is much more lit up. Silverstars are on sale, too $19.99/bulb until 12/27/03. Plus, if you can get another $5 off/pair if you buy two pairs. I'm sure they'll continue to get cheaper. If you want bright headlights, the 9005 Silverstars get my vote.

I just did it too. It was so freaking easy.

Such an improvement too. I was gonna go HID before i tried this. Now I realized there's no need to spend that much for good lighting.

The HIDs are COMPLETLY diff! I had silverstars in my last car...they looked pretty good. I swapped the bulbs into my moms car before I sold it...they look YELLOW compared to the HIDs I just put in the CL, and about 1/3rd the brightness.

I dont know what lights are in my car yet since i just got it yesterday but when I was driving around in the snow down this counrty road I flicked on the high beams and it it was white and bright as hell and when I turned them off the low beams looked yellow but before that they seemed white...

regardless nothing will ever compare to the quality of hid, the differences in temperture on different bulbs only changes the color but HID puts out 10x the lummens per watt compared to any hallogen bulb.

I am definately putting them in my CL as soon as I get some loot.

a projector setup up will be 10000x more better than any 9006 to 9005 conversion, buy some projectors and doa custom setup and you wont be sorry you spent the money and hey you dont need a fancy xenon, they are nice projectors but i have a h1 setup right now, key is right now but i am trading it to anyone that wants it plus some cash the difference from the projector to the stock oem setup is that the projector spreads the light more and clearer than any stock oem bulb, now HID is a different story but if i had AM bulbs like i will, like PIAA the difference is outstanding

For the price, the 9005 conversion can't be beat. The 9005 conversion provides 1700 lumens, while HID is 3200. Stock is 1000, so when switching to 9005 you get 70% more lumens over stock. It is a very noticeable change. And only $40! Nothing compares to HID, but for $40 I'm satisfied.

Yeah untill i can afford HID this sounds sweet. My grandpa always says that he dont like HID's they blind people, I say they are just aimed wrong, how is this setup in the annoying others factor....

I haven't had anyone high-beam me since I put the 9005 bulbs in. Hmmm.. HID is 3200 lumens... 9005 is 1700 lumens a piece... if I leave my brights on and aim them down, I'll have more lumens than HID! (3400).

This would look really nice the whole headlight lit up instead of only the corners and low beams.
