6 speed manual for the V6's

Anytime anybody mentions getting a 6 speed manual everyone complains about it being incrediably expensive. Well, the only person that I know of that has mated a 6 speed manual tranny to our J30 blocks is some guy from V6performance.net and he told me that Labor shouldn't be more then $1500. That is not at all. Finding a tranny for cheap isn't easy but if you stay vigilent and searching junkyards I'm sure one can be had. CL type S, 7 gen Accords, and the 2004 TL's all have 6speeds. The two acura ones even come with LSD's. Considering that people spend around a 1,000 or even more to buy LSD and have them installed on their trannies the price of a 6speed manual tranny doesn't seem much at all. I wish I wasn't a struggling college kid, I would definitely do it. Maybe one of you guys with more funds is interested.

Well, then he didn't do it right. Maybe he overpaid for his and he didn't have the right people working on it. Cuz the guy from V6performance has it working fine, and has gotten all the bugs out. If someone was interested in doing this swap I'd contact him and whoever did his installation and not the guy who blew 6000 on it.

Yea, the guy says 1500$ in labor but ask him how many problems he's run into, the car sat FOREVER

The main problem would be getting the ecu to work. I'd look into seeing if you can get a 04 accord v6 6sp ecu. It cut out many steps. Also most of his labor was him and his friend so a shop may charge more money then he paid. You need downtime for about a month for your car, and all the parts and some one knowledgeable enough to get it to work.

Well, think about it, the guy already went through all those problems and bugs and ironed them all out so why would someone who know's about him be so dumb to not contact the shop that did the swap to find out what all the bugs were and how to get around them.

Botom-line : It'll take one of us alot less time and headache to do it.

Actually I asked him how much should I expect to pay for it, and he said specifically that I shouldn't pay more then 1500 for it so I think that is an accurate approximation.

BTW, the guys name is jimmyrecluse on v6performance.net in case anyone wants to PM him.

Sorry if I sound rude but I'm just tired of the pessimisim on this board that makes everything sound impossible. A 6speed manual swap on our cars is very possible.

BOTTOM-LINE: For the price of an H22A swap (possibly even cheaper), you can swap a 6speed manual tranny with LSD on our V6's.

Well, your $4000 is actually much more. That's about 3K for the blower, $1K to put that on, $4K for the tranny, $1.5K to put that on. That's $9500 right there, plus all the bolt ons (easily 1K), and any other problems/parts that may come up. Depending on the year of your car, thats 19-21K in overall value. Like I said, add a little more and you can have a CLS-6. You should be able to easily find an auto CLS if you are just looking for speed for that price. Intake and a set of $300 headers and it will be just as fast as a blown 3.0. The CSL-6 with the same mods (inntake/headers) will smoke a blown 3.0.

So, the choices are take a car that's worth 9-12K and put about that much into it and it'll still only be worth the same 9-12K OR have a 20K car that's still worth 20K. Sorry, but the first is just plain dumb.

Of course, for 20K+ I wouldn't even be looking at Acura anymore - I'd be looking RWD at this point.
