5spd Swap :newbie:
I need some help, Im a little confused. I am in the process of swaping out my 2.2 auto to a 5spd. In the near future I plan on putting a turbo on either my F series or doing a G. What I am trying to determine is what is the best tranny to get. Of course the noob guide says the M2s4 is the best way to go. But Im not sure if this is an auto or 5spd seeing the way evryone is talking about shorter gear ratios. I dont know what to get that would be best for the HP Im going for.
M2A4 – JDM H22A tranny non-LSD.
M2B4 – JDM H22A tranny LSD Equipped.
M2S4 - USDM H23A1 tranny/possibly also JDM f22b tranny as well.
M2F4 - USDM H22A1 tranny.
M2YA – USDM H22A4 tranny.
M2U4 - USDM Type SH tranny
T2T4 - JDM Accord SiR-T 5spd LSD Equipped (F20B).
T2W4 - Accord Euro-R LSD Equipped (Japan)
U2Q7- Accord Type-R LSD Equipped. (Europe)

Nevermind, got my answer about it being a 5spd. DUH!
But still will it be good for the horsepower im trying to get. and also might there be any other things i must change, drivetrain wise.

the thing that i would want to make sure was that it was LSD equipped. I don't know much about these trannies. but LSD would help. also IMO shorter gears are better. u loose some top speed with shorter gears but better from take off, don't quote me on this thou. I'm just basing this on my own knowledge....

thanks for the response.
Thats what I know, but what Im wondering is if there is anything I need to do otherwise to prepare this tranny to handdle 220-250 HP. Since Im gonna have the thing half way apart I figure I might as well get the work done now.

All you'll really need for that amount of HP is a stage 1 clutch and pressure plate. The tranny itself will hold up fine. When you start getting into boost you might have to get a stronger clutch depending on how much power you put down, but stage 1 should be fine for most of your power demands. Throwing in an LSD would help with traction and tire spin if you can afford one, but its not mandatory until you start getting big power numbers.

h22 tranny + f series motor = FTL!
He'll only get to like 110 mph and top out w/that tranny n engine combo. H22 full swap would be nice though.

Well I have been trying to decide what to do for power and I have decided to stay with the F block for boost. So from what I have seen on here that means that the best tranny is M2s4. Now correct me if Im wrong but wouldnt that be the best tranny setup for a F or G?
Im thinking M2s4 (replace 5th w/f22 tranny) and "stage 1 clutch and pressure plate."

Anyhow, I have an auto with a bad tranny, so if his is not starting to slip or acting up, I would purchase it. If that does not work out, I have a line on a local wrecked car that is a manual and I may go for the swap too.

One custom CL
i got an SH tranny with LSD which i could not fit on my H22 because of oil filter location. i don't know about F22 fitment but i got the tranny for sale cheap.

Shorter gears dont mean much when it comes to speed. My 3rd gear tops at 110mph. All depends how you shift. Also the SH tranny is good for 450 whp and then the LSD will crap out and burn.

/\ Help me out, whats SH? also Im not sure what the differences are between H22 & H23 as far as matching up with my F22. I believe I saw a thread where the gear ratios arent that much different. PM the mileage and price on that tranny. If I can be convinced it will serve my purpose Ill see about the purchase.
quanman, Im swapping from auto to manual. My tranny is done. (277,000 miles)
"if your planning on boosting the f22, get an f22 5 spd tranny..if you go g22, which path are you going, boost or All-motor? silvercl97"
Im thinking eventually going turbo G22. So thats why I was thinking H23 tranny like the nood guide said.

So should I go 199? legend Tranny w/stage 1 clutch & pressure plate
instead of:
M2s4 (replace 5th w/f22 tranny) & stage 1 clutch and pressure plate?

I was simply comparing top gear accel at highway speeds. don't forget my legend has probably close to 80-100hp/tq over our 2.2/3 motors.

very hard to find. but they are amazing machine's. My boss has a 6spd coupe with 115k on it. i get as much pleasure from driving it as i get from my highly modded coupe, his is all stock BTW.

my friend has a 95 auto sedan, its definitely luxury and rides really nicely but i caught the slammed car/stiff suspension bug after driving my friends lowered civic coupe. theres just so much more driving excitement.

I don't know for sure but I'm guessing the F series would be better for boost than the H series because...lower compression? I don't know much about the G so I can't speak on that. I miss my Legend, that thing's handling even at stock was on point.
Sorry gotta do it...

The paint on The Legend isn't as bad as some of those pics make it look, it was starting to fade on the roof a bit but then again it had 180k. Then the CL stock...

So what exactly is every1 getting at here, that he should use an H23 tranny with his swap if he's going G22-T? Idk bout that, when that boost hits, it'll hit hard (if he has the right turbo setup) n he'll have to be shifting quickly w/that tranny. F22 tranny will let him ride out the gear, get to peak boost and STAY in boost when he changes gears. I've had this convo many a time with my mechanic at honda when i was researching setups, cuz he's done everything from twin turbo vettes to his own stroker kit B18 in his civic. If you're not boosting you dont want an f series tranny, you'll be really sluggish w/the G22 (if u can complete the motor anyway, cuz its more complicated than it looks from what i've researched on honda-tech n other places)
