5 speed manual conversion
mY auto tranny is slipping in a gears when it shifts. I dont know why but if it not a simple problem than i would have to get a new tranny. I am think a 5 spd would be better but i dont know if i need one from a specific year or obd2 to go with the engine. What parts do i need to complete the swap and how much should it run for the tranny and labor. I want to do it right so it willl last and have NO check engine lights. Can anyone help me with this??

thats funny that u told me to do a search. You act like I didnt do that already. FYI i did a search amd it came out to be insufficeint info and therefore I am posting my question here. I already know that a f22 or f23 , h22 series trannies will fit but since my car is a 99 and not a 97 Im thinking it would be hard simply b/c the engine harnesses are different but im not sure. If I am not mistaken the tranny is controlled by the ECU and in order to convert the tranny i have to yank the whole harness ouut and replace it with a manual tranny harness.
Thanks for the advice on doing the search method. I would probably forget about it if you didnt remind me even tho i have been on the board for as long as you have maybe even longer.:wackit:

you will need a 5sp tranny of your choice...e.g.(h22, h23, f22, f23)
heres the hard part, since obdII(96 and above cars) have an imobilizer built in...you will need to get a 5spd ecu, key, and cylinder from the same car otherwise it will not work. other options include getting a 96 ecu (still obdII but does not have the imoblizer..they started in 97) OR you can get a 95 ecu and purchase a obd coversion harness.

Your best bet is to go to www.honda-tech.com and go to the hybrid section. ITs filled with civic dudes mostly, but you can still find a wealth of info there about this topic. OH, and do a search first , you will probly get decent results over there.

thanks for the replies. I heard that the 98-99 are different from the 97 CL b/c they have a differnet engine therefore a different ECU and harness. The tranny is controlled by the ECU in this 99 model year and would be difficult to convert without changing out the whole harness. I figure i mind as well do an engine swap. The only prob is that to keep it legal i must find an OBD2 motor. Also the H22a4( OBD2) motor would be easier to swap due to the wiring. A JDM h22a OBD1 would work but would be harder to wire up and i would have to convert to OBD1 and would NOT pass emmisions. With the OBD2 setup i can run anOBD1 p13 ECU with a skunk2 conversion harness.
But if anyone done a tranny swap in a 98-99 CL let me know. Thanks again
