my car has a weak 3rd gear, when I put it in third gear people always pull closer and/or away. all other vtec's that i know of have a really strong 3rd gear. does anyone else have this problm?

 

normal street driving 3rd gear kinda sucks. on the highway 3rd gear is quite useful. while 4th sucks.

 

why is it that other vtecs have a really strong third gear and ours blows?

 

no clue, i think our cars are way underpowered, but thats the same thing all the critics said of the 4cyl CLs when they first hit the stores.

makes me miss my prelude and die for a 6spd accord. oh well, i still enjoy the car, it can be fun.

 

i think 2nd blows 3rd is strong for aroun 35-80mph 4th is useless

hey at least you have a 5 speed, im stuck with a "Slowmatic" Its twice as bad.

 

2.2 and 2.3 CLs should have had the H22A from the factory!

 

I think third sucks too! I always beat my friends cars to 55-60, then I slam it in third and watch them fly by. My friends cars that I beat to 60 include rsx-s, gsr spec-v. Then they pull like 2-3 cars ahead at 80 before I hit the brakes. I should just start stopping at 60 and say "I win"

 

It's only weak in third because it takes like 2-3 seconds till we hit v-tec. Then it's fine. I almost never get beat off the line.

 

I agree with who ever said second sucks. Third is one of my strongest gears. The new flywheel really made the RPMs climb faster. At least they seem to climb faster it could be all in my head I will have to take it to the track in the spring.

 

one thing u are forgetting is that on a car like an rsx-s or a prelude is that they are DOHC VTECs that can rev to 8000. so while ur switching into 3rd they are putting down way more power period. thats the beauty of DOHC they will destroy us at higher speeds. just like a 3.0cl or cord. its a fact that 1st and 3rd are the strongest. its our engines that is the prob not the tranny

The same thing always happens to me, I am ahead off the line and as soon as I put my car in third people do a fly by. I hate it. thats why im saving up for a jdm h22 so I can put an end to the third gear fly bye's.

 

i had the same prob for one it is how long the gears are i do 103 at the top of third. i have an automatic an it used to make me mad until i got a venom 400 and 9.3mm wires it pulls hard from first to fourth i did a interstate pull on my boy in a probe gt with a jasper 2.5 v6 with 210 hp and he used to smoke me
