3.0CL Whining Noise @ idle... Help Me
99 3.0CL with 53k on it. Making a whining noise at idle! Goes away under acceleration but comes back at low speeds. Anyone know what it is? Not causing any problems but is really annoying! HeLP!!!

What kind of whining noise? It's most likely a belt, get some belt dressing and lube up your belts.

Ok so i checked the Alternator and its fine, I checked the Ps pump and its cool, I checked the A/C compressor and its good. The sound seems to be coming from inside the top of the engine. Sounds like it could be the v tec but im not sure. any suggestions. It sounds like the acceleration whistle that acrua hondas get, but my whistle is constant.

Where did your whining come from? could you tell it was the alternator for sure? the whine i hear came from between the cylinders behind the ac pump. then i turn the ac off but the whine is still there? really odd

The whine could be the a/c clutch. It is way to soon for it to be the Timing Belt... Ahh, maybe your water pump has had it. Is your engine running hot?
Oh, I was gonna say also that the sound prolly doesn't actually go away... you just can't hear it over the accelerating engine.

I couldn't tell it was from the alternator. I did a search on the V6 forum and its a common issue when its about to die. I learned the hard way when my car wouldn't start in the parking lot cause it didn't charge the bat.

Logic would say to drive it untill it fails, then you will know for sure. Don't worry, just get a AAA membership so if you need a tow it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. I am sure you will be able to fix it if it breaks.
