3.0cl vs. 535i 5 speed

hey whats up everyone, im lookin for some opinions cause i gotta make a decision within the next couple days on weather or not i want to get rid of my 3.0..... ok here goes.
i found a nice 1989 bmw 535i 5 speed (which are very rare to come across) anyways the dude wants about 4500 for it. He has all the maintenace records and the car looks pretty nice inside and out (remember this is the same body style that went up to 95)

So should i get rid of my 97 primrose cl that is in dire need of a tranny + timing belt soon (105,000 miles) for this nice 5 speed bimmer?
ill try to get pics up of both cars

Thanks

not sure about going to an 89 bmw. Especially for 4500. Maybe if it was cheaper, than you could have both.

Buying a 16year old german car is playing with fire.

As it's already been said, they're plagued by frustrating and expensive to fix electrical problems.

You can kiss your Honda reliability goodbye if you do the switch.

OK, if you want to get rid of your CL for a BMW, I can almost understand... But an 89 model... woe. You should just spend the $4.5K and get you a transmission and a timing belt... If I'd bailed on the Mistress when her transmission went south, I would have owned her a whopping month. So, if the Primrose gave you 105K before failure, get a new transmission and be happy. One year anniversary on mine is coming up in September. So far... Perfection. You are prolly gonna end up putting a clutch in that old gal cause you won't drive it the way he did... hense, the clutch will drop out and some electrical shit will blow... you'll spend $5K to make your clutch and dash instruments to work... and you'll be pissed you sold your CL. Keep her, fix her... Youl'll be the happier for it.

older e34 5 series as everyone has said have many problems. granted my friends 94 525i has lasted him 152k but along the way has had to replace his entire transmission, radiator, alternator, etc. if you honestly want a bmw look at 92-98 E36's (3 series). there not expensive about the same price as a used 1 gen CL depending on milage and other factors and are newer and a little more reliable than E34's

what year 320i do you have. those little 3 series back in the 80's are really cool and fun to drive.

yea i really like my 320.... its a 78, the only thing is that its a 4 speed which makes it horrible to drive on the freeway.
The 535 runs really nice but im also considering a e30 325e or i 5 speed of course
Even though i love my acura as a commuter car i really cant stand front wheel drive for spirited driving
