3.0 Transmission Question
3.0 Transmission Question
Question for the V6's, how hard does the car pull while in second gear? Reason I ask is because I had to do some manuvering to get onto the highway (damn pickup trucks won't let you merge). Long story short, I was WOT after it had shifted down into 2nd, and I was only at 65 MPH approaching 6,000 RPM. It took FOREVER to get the car up to speed, but once the car was in 3rd it start to pull hard again (still WOT).
I don't think I've ever had this problem before, the car used to pick up speed awesome in 2nd gear, and now it just seems sluggish. I took off from a light intentionally in 2nd, started giving it gas and it was just an absolute dog until VTEC kicked in. I don't think it's slipping, but does this sound like impending transmission failure? I know 2nd gear is a major issue.

Sounds like your tranny is on it's way out, may want to take it to a tranny shop and see if they can test your vehicle speed sensor and torque convertor without dropping your tranny first

same here, first rough shifts, then the neutral before the shift. might be the start of the ending. good luck......
sounds like you were going too fast for the tranny to actually shift into 2nd. usually with tranny failures, it will eather stop shifting all to gether, or bang into or out of a gear, or skip gears. on my tl-s if im past say 50 (maybee alittle higher) and i try to down shift to second, it wont do it. even with tip tronic much less with just d5.
It did down shift on it's own though into 2nd. I was in D3 coming down the ramp, I gave it more and more throttle, I felt the tranny shift and the revs jumped. I went WOT and the car was just dogging until it nearly hit the redline, then shifted back into 3 and started to pull again.
When I left from the light in 2, it was definitely in 2 because I was approaching 4,700 RPM at around 45 MPH, third gear definitely isn't geared that low.
I have my tranny cooler mounted, and I'm installing the lines this weekend. Hopefully I can prolong it as much as possible. I have noticed some rough shifts when the car is cold, but not anything major. I'll try to have the guys at the shop I work for look at the VSS as suggested. Thanks for the help.

I think you guys are right about the transmission failing... it was slipping pretty bad tonight in all gears, and a few rough shifts. I'll just have to baby it as much as possible

You have a tranny cooler? get one
acura 2.3 cl
Ive been a lurker forever lots of good diy for my acura tl. Anyway my buddy has an acura 2.3 cl and that tranny went out and we are unable to source one. We found one with 90,000 miles for 1000 dollars at Spalding in Spokane Wa. He was thinking if i have to pull the tranny I might as well replace the engine. Anyway do you know where I can find both?

is it knocking, blown head, cracked block?is it an upgrade like an h22? if it's just the tranny I would replace just that, and deal with the motor when and IF it dies. your buddy will prob need another tranny before the motor dies.........
