Is a 22" resonator really a 18" with 2" flanges on both sides?
Is a 22" resonator really a 18" with 2" flanges on both sides?
The reason why I ask is that I had my OBX headers and Magnaflow muffler installed today. It seems pretty loud. I asked the guy if he used a 22" resonator (which I requested) and he told me it is actually a 18" with 2" flanges on both ends. Also, he wrote 2.5" pipe on the slip. He wrote a hand written slip because I paid cash. Either he wrote it wrong or I got 2.5" pipe when I requested 2.25". I'm thinking its soo loud because of the 2.5" pipe and the 18" resonator.......can somebody help me out?
umm you shoulda gotten 2.25" piping with a 4cyl, you might be losing backpressure, it sounds like that guys doesnt know what hes doing. From what ive seen an 22" resonator is longer just like an 18"...just 4" longer, duh
According to Kleptos picture, this guy gave me the wrong resonator. Kleptos pic shows 3" flanges. Also, I need to call him tomorrow and find out if he used 2.25 or 2.5". I asked for 2.25". He will definitly fix whatever is wrong. When we say 2.25", is that the ID(inside diameter) or the OD(outside)? I will measure it tomorrow. I'm thinking its the ID. I think there might be some writing right on the exhaust pipe. I haven't checked it out, got it back and it was dark out.
Looking though magnaflows website it looks like you need to specify 22" BODY! I think I will be able to get it worked out. For the record, I definitly notice a difference in performance. 3rd gear rips the best. Am I losing power if I have the 2.5 " pipe? It seems to have alot of back pressure. I have a AEM CAI if that matters at all in this equation. It is definitly loud as hell in the car running through the gears. Crusing @ 60 with low RPM is not bad at all.
