2 ohm or 4 ohm better?

hey i'm trying to buy new subs but just curious which one hit better 2 ohm or 4 ohm? Been searching around and got vaious answers. . i have a Kicker 04KX600.1 Class D Subwoofer Amplifier and a cheap crunch amp that i was planning to bridge together. so does it matter how much ohm, and how does it affect clarity?

generaly, the lower the ohm rating the more power you are going to see. Most good sub amps will run well at 2 ohms. meaning you will need two 4 ohm subs paralelled together.

if you have an amp that can handle it, 2 ohm is better. that kicker is 2 ohm stable....so that would work. you can draw more power from the amp if you are running subs at 2 ohms.

get two four ohm subs and wire them in parallel.

edit: lcaruca beat me to it...

what if im getting one 12'' jl w6 or w7 (still thinking), so i should get 4 ohm better? also i'm hearing parallel setting, is it that much better than series?

Whatever you do (1 or 2 woofers) you need to end up with 2 ohms hooked up to the Kicker amp so that you get the full 400 watts out of it. The ohm rating of the woofers determines what load they put on the amp, not clairity, sound quality, etc. If you are unsure how parallel and/or series combinations of speakers works, look into it before you buy a woofer (or two) to ensure you'll be placing the correct load on the amp.

BTW, you cannot 'bridge' two entirely different amps together to combine their power....

Hope this info helps.

ok, thanx yall, i found out why parallel is better. (Parallel wiring has the opposite effect of series wiring – load impedance drops when speakers are wired in this fashion. And the more speakers you wire in, the lower the impedance. The most common reason for wanting to lower impedance is to raise acoustical output.)

You can run more than one speaker from a single amp channel by wiring the speakers in series or in parallel. Series wiring will raise the load (resistance) that your amp sees, and parallel wiring will lower it. Be certain your amp is 2-ohm stable before wiring speakers in parallel.

from http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-...l-serieswiring

a lot of good info, you might want to check it out to learn the basics.

oh ic, thanx for the info circuitcah, i wasn't aware of that. hmm a read somewhere that you could bridge a good amp with a cheap amp. i might be wrong.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this...but whatever you are thinking don't do it!
