if it's the old one it's slow.
a new one with the 200hp v-6 will be in the mid 15's.
i'd get intake and exhaust before i raced him just to be sure.

if it is not the latest generation 5 then you should beat him. I literall blew the tires off of my friends mustang, but his was an auto. A 5spd may hang with you easier.

Unless it says GT on that mustang and has two huge pipes hanging off the back or poking out the sides. Go ahead and race him it'll be pretty close. He is a little faster though with the v6.
Just make sure you shift right before you go into the redline each time, your not that fast till your into vtec range (high rpms I dont know the exact number) and also remember you quit making power at a certain point in the redline so try not to stay in there for to long.

23 this may be true. However, in my experience with my 2.3 I don't really notice any benefit from redlining. In fact whenever I do a run I notice that if I shift right before my redline for each gear that my time will be faster than if I shifted deep into the red. One good way to tell for sure though is check out a dyno graph for the 2.3 look for the rpm # where horspeower and torque begin to decrease. I would assume that shifting where Horsepower or Torque was the highest would result in faster 1/4's and 0-60. I think Im gonna start a new thread with this because Im not sure

Mustang : 3.8-liter, 4-speed automatic
Engine: 3.8-liter V6
Horsepower: 190 @ 5250
Torque: 220 @ 2750
Acceleration: 0-60 mph in 8.7 sec. 1/4-mile in 17.1 sec.
Top Speed: 109 mph
Braking: 60-0 mph in 133 ft.
Road Holding: 0.80 g.
Fuel Economy: 20 (City) / 29 (Highway)
Keep in mind his horsepower figure isnt really that high. Because of all the HP sapping parts (pulleys and flywheel) take off around 25% of the peak horspeower. If he has an automatic take off another 14 horsepower I believe (could be wrong feel free to check me). Add another 5-10 horsepower for his flowmasters and you have a v6 mustang with somewhere in the neighborhood of 130-140 something hp to its wheels.
I lost the number but hes around 110 lbs heavier.
Most of all though he doesnt have VTEC

Next time remember these things too.
1. Get rid of the spare, jack, and lug nut wrench
2. Turn the AC off
3. Turn the thermostat to 90 and make sure the fan is off.
4. For God sakes line up even with him
5. If your messy clean all the crap out of your car, your glove compartment, your console, your door slots, and trunk
6. If you happen to be one of the people like myself who way 200 lbs or more consider why people who only way 150 whip up on you and begin running. Nah Im just playing but thats why some girl drag racers have awesome times their so light. Seriously though make sure your alone when you race you want less weight. You should have two things in your car 1) registration. 2)Good CD Thats it.
Also if you open up your hood and look beside your battery youll see your stock air box and a funny snorkel intake that inserts into a tube leading into the air box. There is a flap on the snorkel. I think its there to difuse hot air. However, mine broke off and I noticed a slight performance increase with just having the open snorkel. So you may want to experiment with this.
I also just bought some K16 Denzo Iridiums for about $12 a spark plug from racelab.com and again a slight performance increase. I have gotten better gas mileage to. I figure after a while the will have paid for themselves ($60 with shipping I think)
These are all just suggestions especially the air box one so what works for me may not work for you but play around try shifting in the range 6000 and 6500 rmps and see if you notice any differences in the way you move. Also one more thing I'm only 5'10 so I sit a little closer to the wheel than a tall persone which allows me to shift faster than a lankier person with longer arms. So scoot up a little too
Good luck next time
