2.2 versus 2.3 CL

I finally got to test drive a 98 CL 2.3 this weekend and think I have decided to get one of those instead of the 3.0. Seems like planty of pep for a daily driver. i figure it's less expensive and probably better gas mileage and all that good stuff. Anyways, I see a lot of the 97 2.2 CL's and not so many of the 98's. I was wondering if there is a major difference between the 2.2 and 2.3 CL's.

Get the 98 or 99, if your going with the stick 2.3. The interior features are slightly better finished than the 97. IMHO

As far as I know, there is not much difference. Rims, grill... and the 2.3 has 5 more hp.

I agree with Melo. Go with the '98+ models. I would go for them based on the improved interior treatment alone. As an owner of a '97 3.0 model, I wish I had some of the little features they added in '98 (i.e. the wheel-mounted audio controls, cancel feature for the cruise, the revised console area w/ more wood and some chrome, etc). In regards to the driving differences, I would much rather have the smooth, silky power delivery of the V6 over the 4-cyl. However, since you want a 5-spd, guess you don't have much of a choice. But, totally, if you find a good deal on a 98+ model, I'd say go for it. Good luck on your search.

Just plan on getting an intake or a K&N filter and you'll be lovin the gas mileage.
Much easier on the wallet than the 3.0 and this car is no "Rocket" in any trimline because it's so heavy, so the 2.3 is good to go if thst's what your looking for.
I like my 2.2 although the 2.3 does have more wood on the inside so that's a plus (if you like that sort of thing)

Make sure to let us see some photos of your new ride!

I'm actually not sold on having a 5 speed. It's going to be more of a daily driver and I'll be getting another del Sol next year for my "need for speed". Less wood trim is actually better in my book. That's the one thing I do not like on the CL's and will be looking into getting a plce to do carbon fiber or even painting it (possibly).

The quest continues...
