I have a 99 2.3 and also a Corvette. I recently wanted to see what i could get the CL up to and founf that at 114 MPH whether it was uphill, downhill whatever. the car stopped accelerating. I am assuming this is electronically controlled but i have read to the contrary. Why does the car stopp accelerating at 114. It doesn't cut out or anything and is only turning about 4500-5000 rpm's. The car runs like it's brand new. I just find it odd as 114 is pretty slow. I don't expect it to do anywhere near what the vette does as i run out of balls before i run out of HP with that car but my old 2.0 eclipse would hit 130. What gives????

I have pinned the speed'o on mine past the 140 mark multiple times so I would say something is wrong with yours.

ive gotten mine to 140 so i dont know why it would stop at 114, mines standard,, yours??

no i have an automatic and there is nothing wrong with the engine. it consumes no fluids, make no noises, accelerates like any other 2.3 i have driven. Any thoughts??? These things only have 150 HP so i dont expect it to go that fast in fact i think 140 is stretching it but i would think somewhere arounf 125-130 would be the norm. Why mine stops at 114 i dont know, anyone with info please advise

all the car test website state the top speed at 126. I tested mine out at the top of the berkshire mountains almost 1/2 mile above sea level. perhaps that was the difference. I guess i answered my own question that the top speed is 126 anyone disagree??

i disagree cuz ive gotten my 2.3 all the way to the 140 mark before and mine is stock

it's auto...and competely stock engine wise....and i have taken it up to 120...but then i backed off

I actually dont know, I know that I can get it up to 125, but after that I get pretty scared so I let off.

what the hell is wrong with my car then. I tried again and it stopped accelerating right around 115. The car runs beeautifully, no fluid consumption, good gas mileage no discernable problems. What gives????

i know that in mine if i punch it at 70 when it is still in 3rd that it sont top out ( or at least my speedo doesnt go that far ) but if i get it up to 95 100 and punch it then it drops into 4th and only does about 115 it is weird but who knows? I HOPE THAT IS UR PROBLEM IF IT ISNT I HAVE NO CLUE

thats the way mine is. if i am going 80 and then floor it i only get to 115 then i am out of speed

I also have a 99 auto 2.3 with a short ram as the only performance mod. I've gotten up to 119 before I backed off - I know I had power to go faster. I'm not sure what's up with yours.
