1997 Cl 2.2 Question

I am currently debating purchasing a '97 CL 2.2 with 116,000 miles on it. I am concerned about the number of recalls and other service bulletins that have been issued by Acura. I was hoping for information on any problems that seem to be standard on the '97 CL. I am basically looking for a little guidance so that I don't regret my decision because I am seriously considering getting it. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks!!

I got a 98 2.3 CL auto... Most of my problems have been pretty minor, nothing major...

I think the autos have tranny problems, and a car that's that high up there in mileage might start showing signs of wear & tear...

Should definetely get it checked out before you buy it...

How much is it going for?

He's looking to pay off the rest of the loan...so $6,ooo. Where would be the best place to get it checked out? A dealership? Or just a good mechanic. The guys father was a mechanic and did all the work on it. The timing belts been changed and the miles are all commuter...so it's looks like a good buy. I'd sure like to talk to someone with a '97.

Thanks

I bought a '97 2.2L manual for my son. It had 40000, now has 60000. We have had to replace both window regulators and fan blower motor (heat & AC). I am happy with the car. If you buy the car get all fluids changed first so you have a benchmark to go by. If the car was taken care of 116000 is not high mileage.

I have a 97 2.2CL with auto. Bought it new and it just barely passed 114000 miles.. Still runing strong and no sign of tranny problems!! May have minor issues but overall VERY RELIABLE car if properly maintained and not abused(As in street/track racing).

I have a 97 2.2 CL with 113,000 miles and mine is still running like new...Just when you buy it, change the fluids and have a complete check of it to look for the belts, battery, etc...It's all good though, what's the price he is asking??

I bought a 2.2 manual trans about a month ago. I had them do a 20 point inspection w/ a compression check. A compression check would be a good idea. You could take it to any mechanic that you'd trust. Good luck w/ your decision!

Thanks ('97 CL 2.2) a lot

I appreciate all the responses. I have seriously investigated the car and it looks like it will be a great car. I guess the saying rings true that if you take care of the car it will take care of you. Does anyone know anything about the CV joint issue and when it should be changed? And are there any extended warranties I should consider? (being as the original warranty has long expired) And what is the lifetime on the brakes, I hear they have problems??

Thanks again

Have you noticed any problems with the clutch linkage at all? I drove a '99 and it seemed mushy to me. Any experiences with that?

Well... i think you just hit my nail right on the head- I don't know much about automatic transmissions but when the trans. is cold, it basically hits neutral for a second (rpm's rev) during the shift from 3rd to 4th... Clutch linkage?? Dunno... but that's my only transmission problem and the only transmission problem i've had since owning the car.

I dunno...that's a good question though...probably deserving of a post. I'd be willing to bet that someone out there knows.

just bout a standard 2.2CL last month, runs great except for the high pitched squeaking noise coming from braking. thinkin its problee the brake pads so im checkn them this weekend...also the clutch does have a little linkage problem and especially downshifting from 3-2 or 2-1.....other than that...love the car runs great-cant wait to modify it a bit tho
