18's vs 17's

I'm hearing that if I wanted to get 18's for my car I would have to get a whole new suspension b/c it raises the car and makes it look like shit, would this be the case if I got 17's? Damn, I dont wanna spend over $3000 just for a set of rims.

I have 18"s. Before I got the car lowered it looked lifted. It did look better than than the stock 16"s. If you get 18"s, get the pro-kit and the Tokico Blues. It looks great now. No rubbing and it rides better than stock with the Tokicos. The tokicos were $200 (new) off of ebay. The eibach springs were $115 (used) off of ebay. The install was $175 at a shop. I hope this helps. Give me a good user rating.

18's wont raise your car that much, just get a really low profile tire. Even if it does, they will look so much better the 17's or the stock 16's.

Well, as everyone knows, the Pro-kit didn't lower my car very much, so it looked pretty much stock when I had the stock rims, but when I put 18s on, it kinda gave the impression of being lower than it had been, because the wheels are bigger. The wheel kinda filled up the empty space.

Another thing to think about (the reason I chose 18 instead of 17) is this: if you get 17s, they're great and all, but in a few months you'll wish you had 18s, because almost everyone does, and then you'll have to sell your 17s at a loss and buy more expensive 18s... so you'll wind up losing money. Just buy the 18s now and there will be no dissatisfaction in the future.

I totally agree with Angel. The same thoughts went through my head and I got 18's.

Shouldn't the actual diameter of the wheel/tire combo be the same as you upsize the wheels/tires. The idea is usually to get thinner tires as you get larger wheels so that it all stays the same diamter. If that is the case, then how could larger wheels "raise" your car? I only see that happening if you go with larger wheels and larger tires, but that causes the problem of having a larger diameter, which will mess up yor speedo.

225/40/18's are 25.08" in diameter
205/55/16's are 24.87" in diameter

So its a relatively small change, but it is noticeable.....

I have the prokits and I did get a new set of shocks as well. I figured that since I already have over 50k miles on the car, I guess it's time to change the shocks. Plus, you save money on installation if you change both at the same time.

16's or 17's would be best for performance.
Lighter the better. You can get some 17's w/low profile tires and it will be smaller than stock overall diameter plus much lighter, so look carefully. That's about the extent of my knowledge.

if your gonna get some little guy 17's try for a 235/45/17 or 235/40/17 if they will fit. If not 225/40/17 i would'nt go any higher on the sidewall than a 45 though if you still want it to look like a low profile tire. But I'd buy some 18's
