104 Octane

This stuff was on sale and it's advertised to clean your fuel line and intakes so I bought one. (I left it in the car so I'll give the full name later) When I read the directions it states for off road only, well hell, why advertise it as a dailer driver helper and not for off roading. Does anyone have experience with adding additive to your fuel?

Both

It says it does both though it's not made by stp. It's in a funky bottle with a cardboard attatchment. AFFESS had it on sale, I'm ganna use it though I don't want to damage my engine.

alright, do as you please. but adding foriegn things to your engine could be harmful in the long run, especially if you dont know the name of it.

AAFES( did you mean Army Air Force Exchange Service, unless you're talking something else?) well, i dont really trust some of the stuff there that they sell, most of the time the people working there cant tell you what the hell it does. I'd say seafoam your engine, rather than risking it.

I was going to say the same thing...

I have used some octane boosters in the past and they don't seem to cause any problems with the cars that I have used them on...

The one fuel additive that I can actually say worked (it worked and I saw a difference in performance) was the old school 'Dura Lube' Fuel System Treatment...

I don't see that on the shelves anymore but all they do is (claim) to put in additives and detergents that cause cleaner running fuel...

It won't hurt your motor. All your doing is increasing the octane in your gas from say 91 to 104. That's like running Premium gas from the old days. It will def. clean out your injectors, throttle body, fuel system. I would run it in my CL.

Those so called octane boosters are shit. They wont bump your octane to "104" when blended with 91 octane. If you want to increase your octane equivilant to race fuel, you can use Torco fuel accelerator or Toluene-- which you can buy at a hardware store. If you use Toluene be sure to read up on the proper gas:toluene mixture ratio. Same thing with the Torco fuel accelerator.

Besides, you don't need to run anything higher than 93 on a stock/bolt-on n/a motor.

I can get you some avgas..........

Its 100 octane. Its illegal to dispense into a car, but not into a portable container.

I could get Jet fuel too, but cars dont run too well on kerosene.

I don't know where people get this idea that higher octane gas is cleaner and/or will clean out your engine and/or will give you better performance with a compression ratio that doesn't knock with 87. Also, the oil companies are delighted that people will volunteer to pay more to fill up with 94 when their engines don't need it. There's detergents and antifreeze in all gas, even from off-brand service stations (I'm a chemical engineer)

Seafoam will clean out everything, including the long, black, difficult to clean air intake system. It's also the only way you will be able to get grime out of the system in places you can't reach.

How does a gas additive clean your air intake? They should get sued over some of these claims.. 90% of the additives on the shelf at most stores don't work.

To answer your question, 104 octane is supposed to be for highly modified or race vehicles where even 94 octane isn't enough to prevent pinging. I can't see it being much use unless the engine has drastic mods like a supercharger or a turbo.
