04 TL 3.2 swap in a 98 CL
OK I have a 98 CL 3.0 and was wondering if I could pull an engine swapp with the new 3.2 270hp TL engine? Does anyone know if this would work?

Well goin with the 04 would be hard to find but I am not planning on a swap soon but if it was possible it couldbe within the next year maybe. If the 04 will fit them I am going to go with it and oh yeah on the smogg thing I live in Mississippi we don't have any laws like that here. I think that the aftermarket stuff will be made for the 04 soon but 270 hp with nos will be enough for me.

I'd say get a new car. A swap like this would be expensive. Your car + the price of the swap puts you in 2001 CL-S price range.
CL-S isn't as light as the 1st gen so it would be a little slower then a 1st gen with a J32A2, but its easier and you get a lot more luxury.

With all of the money you're going to spend on parts... then installation... then tuning.... why not just buy a 2004 TL? That way you know it will work right and it'll be ready to go out of the box and it will have all of the new technological goodies your 1998 CL can only dream about. Wait until next year and get a low mileage 2004 TL in the mid-$20's and you'll be all set.
I mean, just the tranny and engine alone will run you close to $12k (and that's using 2001-2003 CL/TL numbers, 2004 stuff is probably more money), and that doesn't include all of the other stuff you will need (plus installation). Doesn't make sense to me....

Look for all the smart asses I know nos is a brand. As for the TL it heavy and needs 270 just to keep up. I am looking for a light car with a big engine get point.

personally, i dont think the 04 TL engine will fit, with custom motor mounts and having to move every single fluid container around and alt, battery, and starter and all that stuff....our engine bay is cramped as is without the extra .2 liters of displacement and extra stuff the 04 TL has.
Good luck getting the tranny to fit in right, as well. Jst remember the TL has a much longer wheelbase, thus needs more room for engine and tranny, as opposed to the CL-S.
you'd have to wait at least 8-10 months for a good front clip to come around anyways. as the 04 TL hasnt ben out for very long.

I agree with the others. Forget this shit, and just buy another car. Buy a CLS. Less hassle, same $$, and now you have a car worth $20K instead of a car that cost $20K but is only worth $12K.

Ok I thaught that the CL-s only made 240 ok maybe I was wrong. still the idea that the TL puts out 270 is not all its cracked up to be. I mean come on does it put that to the wheels, probably not. Its a four door sedan, that means alot of weight. Oh and if the CL-s does make 260 it don't feel like it.

We need to make up a sticky about these engine swaps and how you might as well forget it and buy a new car. Then everytime a thread like this pops up, we just direct them to it. It's the exact same thing every time....

well....if you like your car that much...then do it..but it would also be easier to throw a supercharger on the engine for a lot cheaper than a swap.....get a few upgrades.....about 10 backup trannys and youll be set...actually i think cldriver is still on his first from what ive heard......

But, that aside - just don't waste your money then. Save for later in life or something. Buy a boat. Idk...

just remember that the people who ask the questions like the dude that started this thread are often gracing the covers of "super street" and "HCI"
Kudos for imagination and thought provoking.

I don't grave the cover of any mag. Most of the time I look and see what no one is doing and wonder if it could be done. Thats why I started this thread. I mean I have never seen an engine swap in a CL. But I do see engine swaps in alot of other cars. I would just be nice to see someone do something other than bolt ons.
