Headlight went out. Replaced bulb. Still not working
Hello all,
I'm a former Acuraziner, having owned two TLs before. I recently picked up a 2010 MDX Advance and now I'm back!
Last night I had my driver's side low beam go out. I called the Acura dealer and they wanted $160 for a replacement bulb, so I picked one up from Advance Auto for $99. It's a D2S, the same type of bulb that was in it. I removed the bulb that wasn't working, and looking at it I couldn't tell that it was blown. I installed the new bulb, turned on the lights, and nothing. I checked all of the fuses related to the low beams and they were all good. I did use latex gloves when putting the new light in to make sure no oil got on it. I called my local Acura dealer back and they said that I should replace it with a bulb from Acura because sometimes other brands just don't work. I doubt there is any truth to that, but has anyone experienced that? Advance Auto says that I cannot return or exchange the bulb since I have already opened it.
So then I talked to another Acura dealer and the person was very helpful. They said to check the continuity from the igniter to the control unit. I will try this next. If I have to replace the control unit and igniter it will end up costing over $1000, which is ridiculous for a headlight.
I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has had a similar problem or has any advice on the subject.
Thanks

Easy way to check if the Ignitor or Ballast is bad:
Swap the good working bulb over to the other side
It works? = Bulb is bad replace with a new one
Dont work? = Ignitor or Ballast is bad
Bulbs should be replaced in pairs as the color can differ from side to side so...
Next time buy the Morimoto D2S Bulbs from the Retrofit Source, they are top notch and only cost 50 bucks a pair.
