Where do you guys purchase the furnitures?

Where do you guys usually purchase the bed frames, sofa, kitchen tables, and other basic furnitures?

I've been getting everything from IKEA til now, but since I'm getting married soon... I was thinking of something more nicer than IKEA...

Thanks guys.

Depends on your tastes (and budget). For example, Ethan Allen is good furniture, but not my style. I've gotten most of my stuff from Bassett and Boyle's (sells multiple brands). Both are reasonably priced, and all of Bassett and most of the stuff at Boyle's is solid wood and/or well made. Henredon is good, but not particularly cheap. Ekornes is awesome, but VERY expensive.

Depends who has what I like at a price I can afford.

Includes (usually): Basset, Boyles, Havertys, Thomasville, EA, etc.

I can't afford any of the really cool/pricey stuff chill_dog can.

We don't have a big budget for it. And we are trying to get those awesome stuff after we buy a house in 3-4 years.

What we need to buy:
Sofa set
Bed Frames/Dresser
A King Size Mattress
TV Stand

Total Budget:
Around $6-7k

For contemporary furniture, we've bought from Rapport International (La Brea north of 3d Street, IIRC), and Plummers Furniture (small chain; closest to us is on Venice Blvd. at the Helms Bakery complex).
Caveat: some of the stuff at Plummers is not much better than IKEA stuff, but some of it is much better.

It's amazing how many furniture stores and chains have closed- we have stuff from a couple of closed chains too.

Oh, and Costco has good prices if you find furniture you like and can borrow/rent transport for it.

BTW, you can always buy tables used-- kitchen, coffee and end tables-- off Craigslist, at used furniture stores like Wertz Bros. on Santa Monica Blvd. close to Santa Monica, at non-profit charity stores or in yard sales.

Have fun!

Craigslist.

Like seriously. I bought these two furniture on craigslist. Retail total for the dresser is $180. Retail for the computer desk is $150. Got both for $180 in excellent condition. Winning.

*Your results may vary though.

Yard sales are a great place to find steals. When I bought my house a few years ago, I stumbled across a yard sale where I got a nearly new sofa set, 3 pc coffee table set, 2 bedroom nightstands, and a nearly new Stihl weed eater for $250!! He was asking $300 but went for $250.

we usually shop at the smaller stores and get real wood furniture, not cardboard junk from ikea. stay away from franchised furniture stores.

check this site out: http://www.homelegance.com/

my parent's bought this set for less than 2k. all real wood and marble

I just named places...as I said, my stuff came from Bassett or Boyle's.

For $6-7k total, check out the ones BC suggested. Rooms To Go will also accommodate your budget. You can get a good TV stand online (Best Buy, tvstands.com, etc.).

Almost everywhere...Depends on your budget. I enjoy EQ3, Palliser, and Natuzzi products for furniture.

Modern look FTW.

I dunno...I think Restoration Hardware is supremely overpriced. That, and I don't quite get the look they have going.

I think the only object I considered buying from them was that periscopic floor lamp on 3 legs.

You might want to try CORT Furniture. They have a few locations in socal. They sell all their previously leased furniture. Can get a great deal on certain things.

What do you guys think about this? Pretty good deal? The shipping to LA is $199.

http://www.raymourflanigan.com/kian-...596088318.aspx

And these sofas from Costco?

Thanks guys! We both have been shopping at IKEA... so we both are just so noob at this.

I like to be touchy-feely with furniture, to make sure it feels and functions satisfactorily, before buying.

I would not buy any sofa or chair without trying it first.
Many sofas, even within brands, are specifically made to be softer or firmer, etc. like mattresses, and I have a preference for a firmer feel.

Fortunately, you can try out the sofas at many Costcos before ordering.

Costco carries memory foam mattresses (Tempurpedic imitations?) too, under the Nuva and Sleep Science names, but IDK if you can try them at most stores. Free returns, though.

We just signed a contract for a new home and we are furniture shopping right now. We have looked at furniture from aspen home and really like it for the money. My friends own a small furn. store chain and they buy this stuff by the container. THe quality seems nice, dovetail drawers, they have a nice media chest.

so we just ordered a bedroom set from Raymour & Flanigan, and the expected delivery date is 5/9/2049....... LOL

Must be a mistake right? It should take as little as 3 weeks, but I wasn't expecting +30 years...

That's for only East Coast orders. For the West coast orders, it said it's going to take as little as 3 weeks.

So, we are almost done with shopping and the sofa is the last item that we need to get.

We researched a lot and fell in love with this one from Costco.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=#BVRRWidgetID

The only problem is that it's online only item, so we can't try it before we get it.

I know it's a bad idea but wanted to get some feedback from you guys. The reviews are very good but who knows.

They come and pick it up!? Really? Are you sure? That's a huge plus for us then since I was worried about shipping it back if we don't like it.
