What's the best sounding exhaust for an '08 TL-S

Whats up everyone? I'm trying to find out what is the best sounding exhaust for the TL-S I'm a new TL owner but been in the car scene for quite a while just haven't been into a big body car like the TL. Any suggestions on a performance and great sounding exhaust? Also does anyone knows if Mugen makes a front bumper for the TL also? Thanks

just youtube some exhausts for the 3g TL such as greddy evo 2, ATLP, XLR8, RV6, are the main ones. this will give you an idea of what they sound like but you wont appreciate their full sound until you hear them in person. Here:
Greddy evo 2 catback:

ATLP catback:

RV6 catback:

The RV6 & Comptech exhausts sound the best IMO.

They all sound different with mods besides the cat-back. When you add any of the following jpipe, pcd, test pipe,or hfpc it changes the tone.

Cant go wrong with atlp or rv6 true dual

for the type-s, I would go with the RV6...it sounds very exotic and with the HFC's there will be no rasp (PCD's produce a ton of rasp)....

Rv6 made a true dual exhaust (almost)....and the long tube J-pipe...very sick...expensive but sick

It consists of Jpipe with long primaries with merge at the 3rd cat....and the exhaust splits off from there and continues with 2 pipes all the way back....

here is the link:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...784087&page=30

HFC = High Flow Cats
PCD = PreCat Deletes

PCD's are know for their rasp but they gain couple ponies more than HFC....
HFC are more expensive than PCD's but keep you legal

I went with atlp jpipe, hfc and cat back quads...love it! Running a v1 CAI which totally balances it out. I have the resonated atlp and felt like the non res might have had an extra pony or two.

Best exhaust combo is for sure RV6 HFPC, RV6 V3 and RV6 cat back, there is a clip on youtube of a white TL-S with it, it sounds better then my friends old 2004 M3.

^ you won't be finding any Mugen, or any other JDM, parts for the 3G TL. it was only offered in North America, thus no JDM support.

for parts, check out www.heeltoeauto.com
Marcus is a vendor on here, just revamped his site, and has a nice selection of parts conveniently grouped in subcategories.

We like to believe our XLR8 exhaust is the best sounding exhaust on the market. It has been described as sounding almost exotic.

There is no best sounding. It's all personal preference & sometimes, many of the answers you'll receive are from the owners themselves.
Case in point: I like ATLP's the best, but then again, that's why I bought the exhaust.

See if you can find any owners in your neck of the woods & make your decision then after hearing them in person, if you can.

I say ATLP. The others are great but ATLP has just the right note and tonal quality as well as being smooth and mellow. With the RV-6 J-pipe it opens it up just a bit more and makes it just right. The RV6 dual sounds powerful and throaty, great, but it's not me. That ATLP video sold me years ago. I guess I'm goin for a more lux/VIP sound than a racy sound if that makes sense?

They're really all great, your ears will pick the winner. The worst thing you can do is leave it stock. That exhaust wants to flow! One of the best mods on my car!

i did research into this for a few months between ATLP and XLR8 resonated, and ended up going with XLR8 based on the Purge Resonance Tech, videos, and PM'ing owners. Not sure if the Purge Res. Tech is just marketing or not but decided that ATLP and XLR8 were close enough in performance/sound that I might as well give the tech a shot haha.

can't talk about actual results though because I have been waiting on Heeltoe/XLR8 to build the exhaust for 6 weeks now! but I'll put in my personal experience once I get it (catback and J pipe)...better be before xmas!!

like others have said...you can't go wrong with any of the 3 vendors

I'm in the market for one of these as well and it's a tough decision. A question I have not seen come up often is which one has the least highway drone or overall drone? I have been pulled over multiple times for exhaust on cars from the past. I am assuming the ATLP would have the least drone and be less prone to being hassled by the cops because from what it sounds like it is the most mellow. If there is anyone in Wisconsin that has one of these exhausts let me know! I have not heard one in person yet.

check out my post (#21)...my main goal was to avoid drone and that's why i went with xlr8, they have something called PRT to cut down on drone. don't know if it's marketing or actually works, since i haven't received my exhaust yet (and i'm dying to get it)

If you want the least drone you will want either the Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust or the CT-E exhaust. Both of these are single tip mufflers. These systems includes mid mufflers, rear mufflers and a resonator.

We have built Purge Resonance Technology into our mufflers to reduce drone. Our XLR8 resonated catback is the perfect medium. You get the throatiness and style without minimal drone.

Is there anything out there that looks like a stock TL exhaust system? I think I saw something from ATLP or RV6 that looks Base, but cant seem to find any pictures indicating so.

I thought ATLP only sold 20 as a group buy. Can an ATLP catback be bought now ?

I love the RV6 exhaust, but I dont want to spend $$$ on HFC's. Just a great sounding catback with no resonator.

I have the non-resonated ATLP catback and RV6 J-pipe on my 2006 TL and loved it.

So that sound clip has only the non-resonated XLR8 exhaust ? Did he do any other exhaust mods ? Like HFC, or anything else ? I am planning on getting a 2007-2008 Type-S this summer, just getting ready. I had the ATLP quads on my last TL and loved them, but I don't think they can be bought anymore.

Thanks sockr1.

When I bought my ATLP quads in early spring of 2009 there was only 20 being made. Special order. I didnt know it was being mass produced now.

Thats AWESOME. I LOVE the sound and the look of the quad pipes that come straight out and are staggered instead of slashed/angled

AWESOME !!!!!

Ya man, it's like you think you have something exclusive until they mass produce it. I was actually justifying it with my gf at the time... "They won't be making any more of these! This will be rare"

I am no longer with my gf and now they are mass producing ATLP quads... FML

I am GLAD they are mass producing them. I hardly ever see a MODDED TL where I live ( about 45 minutes north of Chicago ). Now I have to decide between a non-resonated ATLP of XLR8 exhaust. I do prefer the quad ATLP pipes and how they come straight out and are staggered instead of slashed like the XLR8 quad tips. But thats just my taste.

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend, Thy Will be Done. I hope your ok today

I don't want to spend a fortune on HFC or all the other stuff like I did on my 2006 WDP TL. Just a nice sound and a few more HP is fine with me. I drove a 2010 loaded 2/SS/RS LS3 Camaro around for 26 months, so I got the POWER bug out of me. 0-50mph in 3.4 seconds WAS FUN !!! But I prefer the 08 Type-S .

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS ALL

@ "mass produced"

It's not like they're rolling ATLP's off the assembly line 50 an hour, 24/7.

GF's, otoh, are a dime a dozen; you can find one in any bar or on any street corner. Now that's "mass produced".

I have stock PC's and RV6 Jpipe and TruDuals and I really enjoy the sound and look over stock.

If you can find a set or get in on 2nd batch expect to pay just under 2 g's for the combo.

I decided against the HFPC's for now due to the cell count on the Type S being in the middle.

Now I would be all for getting the HFPC's but I won't go PCD route for personal reasons.

I did look at ATLP and XLR8 exhausts before getting the RV6 and it was a hard decision. They both are solid exhaust and have good people who are active on this board as well backing there products.

With fewer companies making exhaust for the TL is was by far the hardest decision versus other cars I have owned.
