Anyone replaced the stock tweeters?

I'm just wondering if replacing the stock 1" tweeters with JL Audio ones would do any good? Or would that just be a waste of money? And how exactly can they be replaced? Do you just pull out the stock ones and replace with the new ones, or is there more involved? Please forgive my ignorance on this subject.

stock tweeters run at 2 ohms, jl audio are (probably) 4 ohms. probably wouldnt work very well. even if you could, I doubt replacing just the tweeter would really affect your sound to a degree that you could tell the difference.

Agreed. Just a replacement with no other enhancements in the stereo would make no difference at all or perhaps lower the quality.

I replaced the tweeters in my car, but it is whole new system.
5 1/4" component with the crossovers in the trunck. I had to run two sets of speaker cable up to each door through the cable tube between the door and the body of the car. "Not easy"
The tweeter mounts also needed to be cut in order to accommodate the size difference of the new tweets.

why didn't you mount the crossovers inside the doors? thats what i did...much easier than running wires back and forth...

They look better in the trunk. I mounted them by the amps. The hardest part was getting the wire through the door anyway. One of these days I will get some pics up.

I too have put JL 5 1/4 seperates in the doors also. The stock tweeter placement did have to be shaved alittle to accomodate the larger size of the JLs. I too agree that just changing the tweeters will not do much for the system, but a whole set of seperates did help. The JLs sound alot better than stock and now I get alot more higher frequencies that i was missing before.
