What kind of paint did you use? Did you remove the grill and then paint it or did you tape off the area and paint it?

I purchased Trim paint by duplicolor.. it is in a green spray can at any autoparts store..

Here is what I did:
I removed the front bumper.. once you get the front bumper off you will see how to remove the grill.. there are a few screws and clips to get the grill off.. then I removed the "A" emblem on the grill. 2 Screws hold that on.. then I sanded the grill with I think 600 grit sand paper.. wiped it down.. then cleaned it with alcohol and let it air dry.. this is to help clean the surface of any oils that could mess with the paint sticking... I then sprayed it with Duplicolor adhesion promotor. I followed the directions on the spray can. Do light coats!! I think I did 2 coats.. this is to help prevent paint chips and help the paint stick. Then I sprayed it with the Duplicolor trim paint. Again with light even coats. I did about 3-4 coats.. This paint dries very evenly and doesn't need clear coat. I have used it to paint side skirts and other parts of my other cars and it looks like paint they use from the factory. Never had a problem with this paint chipping or falling off. Make sure you prep it so the paint will last longer!

Good Luck and pm me if you have any questions!

BTW, Here is a pic of the trim paint:

Here is a pic of the adhesion promoter:

I was so bored today studying for exams, i decided to take some time to black out my grill. I used what bzyrice recommended with the trim paint. Although i did skip the adhesion promoter. Hopefully, i wont run into any issues. Didnt bother taking off the bumper to remove grill though. Just masked around the area and covered the rest with newspaper.

I think it turned out pretty well

Hey, Thats ur opinion.
My style is NOT like every onther TL out there! I try to bring something different to the scene.
Its easier to go ALL MURDERED OUT...But everyone does it.
This was the simple fact why i didn't go with RJ wheels...they're Hot...But everyone and there MOMMA got em.
BUT obviously u don't appreciate my style, and thats fine.
BUT I GONNA KEEP DOIN' ME.

He bought the o4-o6 eBay grille and put it over the Type-S grille.
Looks nice... until I notice the original part of the grille.
Pretty ninja with all that black though Almost didn't notice at first.
Would look much cleaner if it was flush.

I know, it would...

I bought the grille off a another guy who back out on the install. At that time, I didn't know that it wouldn't fit the TL-S bumper...I found out after I already cut the bumper and ready to install...thats when i found out it woundn't align...SOooo I had to get creative to make it work...

The ebay grill WON'T align with the TL-S bumper UNLESS you do some CUSTOMIZING to it...trust me, I know 1st hand. Just giving you a heads-up...

I like it murdered out! Plus, the red trim on the wheel/tires really sets it off well.

This was done with dupli-color graphite wheel paint. I was going to do the whole thing the same color, but I ended up liking the contrast.

I dont know if i should go with a semi gloss black or a matt finish black or a oem NBP. I have a ABP TL 06 and i wanna leave the silver outside trim alone and the A in the middle. So what do u guys recomend ?

ACU-RATE - everyone really seems to hate your car. Oh well, keep doing your thing and enjoy it. I like the eBay grille...the double trim is actually kind of neat. I wish you had had that on when you came to the meet here (or did you and I just don't remember...that's very possible ).

Go with the Matte finish if you're doing black. It makes the "A" pop more and it appears to float in mid-air.

So after two weeks, im experiencing paint chips. I dont tailgate people really closely nor do i drive on dusty/rocky roads. I sanded it down with 400grit sandpaper and sprayed on black trim paint.

I will have to re-do it and im just wondering if i should use a different sandpaper or try other methods. Will a layer of adhesion promoter help before i lay on the paint? I thought about clear coating it but it will make it shiny and i like the matted black of the trim paint.

^clear coat on matte black defeats the purpose of matte black, like he said.

Is there any way to protect n seal flat black paint without shinny-ass clear coat?
