P1717 pop in today while backing up on the MDX.. Seems its time for a new Transmission Range Switch? what do you think guys?
Strange and bizarre my TLS with 15 years have never asked for a Transmission Range Switch, Stupid sexy MDX.

 

I disconnected the battery to clear the code and tried again...
It seems the issue is consistent, Will only deploy the code if I quickly change from drive to reverse (Like in a fast 3 point turn) but If I take my time and do Drive - Neutral - Reverse I can avoid the code altogether.

 

clear it and see if the code comes back!

The TL has its own load of issues..

How much is the switch

 

Besides from the Transmission, My TLS has NEVER.. EVER.. Give me any kind of electrical issues, In fact I haven´t replaced any of the core elements of the engine: Coil Plugs, Alternator, AC Compressor, Starter, EGR Valve, Main Sensors and Oxygen Sensors, Cat, Both Fans, Not even a Single FUSE They are all 215K OEM Parts... In 215K I have replaced the Engine Temp Sensor and that´s it. So yeah my MDX has been more unreliable than my TLS even with its shitty trans, At least the trans gave me problems every 5 years or so.. I only have 1 year with the MDX.

Part is cheap.. OEM range is 60 to 70 bucks.

 

So far the MDX in my ownership has failed:
1.- (FIXED) Replaced driver door sub harness, Watch that thread! is amazing how many problems that sucker gave.
2.- (NOT FIXED) 120v AC Inverter died from absolutely no Reason, One day tried to charge the GoPro and the socket was dead.
3.- (NOT FIXED) I am sure my Gas Cap/Tailgate switch LEDs died cuz the switch works but there is no light at night
4.- (WONT BOTHER TO FIX) 6 Slot CD Player is stuck so it doesn´t work.
5.- (WONT BOTHER TO FIX) I believe my Lumbar support is on it way out, last time I tried to adjust it felt like a gear was skipping.

Those are stuff that FAILED and are in no way, "Maintenance" type items like shocks or brakes.
So... yeah.

 

Also I need to point out that the CD Player getting stuck really was a hit to me...
That shitty CD Player ate my original Linkin Park Hybrid Theory disc, The TLS never hurt me in this way... TLS only hurt my wallet with the trans.

 

But in the end, it doesn't even matter...
