Ok, posting this again, maybe someone else has had this problem. got the navi message, DVD disk reading error, (Unformatted). Cleaner disk didn't work. Sent to Alpine who returned it unrepaired with a note saying that 2001 navi system no longer has available parts for replacement.

So now my only option is to buy a new one for $3,000!! or are there rebuilt ones out there.?? Help!

 

I don't know the source of your nav problem and wether you need to replace your unit or not, or just a simple fix. But if you are looking for used unit, you can try ebay, the local honda/acura recycling centers (yellow pages), or the nationwide parts locating services 1-800-999-9499 for Honda/Acura.

 

Thanks Shawdrl. I didn't know about the nationwide parts locating service. I just hope it isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg. Pretty disappointed in the quality of this unit and all the same reported problems with the Navi.

 

I'd try a junkyard. Quite sure the '01 - '03 RL system is compatible as well.

My Navi is contained in a black box under the passengers seat. I'm not familiar with the RL, is it a box just like the MDX? Would the plugs be the same?
