Tire question

I have an 07 MDX and I'm ordering 22 X 8.5 wheels. Other than 265/35/22, what is the biggest tire I can fit without fitment or rubbing issues?

Are you seriously trying to put 265 on 8.5 rims? 265 is the range for 9.5+ Inch wide rims; trying to get them to fit on the rims will be horrible idea, not only in the way it looks but performs. Run a staggered setup if you want, 9.5 in the front and 11 in the rears.

For a 22 x 9.5 setup use 255/35/22
For 22 x 10.5 setup use 285/30/22

As far as rubbing goes, it all depends on the offset of the rims you get

Thanks for the reply and for the input. I keep getting recommendations for 265 even on a 8.5 wheel, but I will certainly look at the 255 option.

It all depends on what you want. Stock is an 18x8 with 255. If you get a 1/2" wider wheel, you can literally add 12.7mm tread so a 265 is no problem at all. The widest you'd want to go on a 8.5" would be about 285. It all comes down to the bulge, if you want to protect the wheel a little wider tire will do. If you want the Euro/race look then get a tire not as wide.

Hmm, any fitment suggestion for an 02 MDX? Looking to put 20s or 22s. Still deciding between volks or Asantis.

Sorry guys, don't want to make it sound like you can just pick a tire width and go. You'll want to get the tire height as close as stock, in our case 29.03 inches.

Do you, or have you seen anyone running staggered wheels on a MDX? I'd like to run a staggered set but getting the front and rear tire heights close isn't that easy. I'm not sure if it will be a problem with the AWD or not.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going with 265/35/22. What sucks now is that the wheels that I want are on back order!!

I had a 255/45 on a 9.5" rim and it fit perfect. Not sure how great a 265 will work on an 8.5" rim, then again it is a 35.

I haven't seen someone run a staggered setup on an MDX, but it'd make it look better. For the sizes I posted, those are within 1% of the stock rolling diameter according to www.1010tires.com tire size calculator. Just remember, if you try to go with a really wide tire on a smaller rim (265 on 8.5 inch rim) that there will be a bit more flex in the sidewall due to the bulge, the same goes for an undersized tire. Then again, a 30 and 35 series tire doesn't have as much sidewall as a 55 series tire...

With 35 profile, you won't get bulge, the sidewall will just be diagonal from the rim to tread. Not the best for cornering but will save the wheel if you contact a curb. 22x8.5 sounds car specific, don't usually see this size for trucks and SUVs.

Thanks for everyones input. Im actually getting 22x9 hopefully tomorrow. I've seen on MDXERS.org that some of the guys there have used 265/40/22....hopefully it will fit. I want as much tire as possible. I'll post pics as soon as I get them on. I can't wait till I put them on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are recent pics of the X with 22's. When I bought them I was told that they would be a high offset. They ended up being a 15mm offset.....size is
22x9 with 265/35/22. Im pretty happy with the setup actually. The front rims stick out less than a quarter of an inch.
