Rear view camera

Is your camera broken or just trying to improve the video quality? The MDX rear camera had 3 views of Normal, Wide, and hitch view. You might miss out on those views with an aftermarket replacement.

The 2007 MDX does not have multi-view from the rear camera. It's just one really cheesy, blurry look. And I know what the author of the topic is talking about.
You can try to install this camera from Amazon and connect the wires to the original wiring harness.
OEM camera has three wires and a shield in the cable:
'White' is +12V,
'Shield (Grey)' is Ground,
'Black' is camera Video signal,
'Red' is ADPT camera signal that detects connection for rearview camera. It's a 5V signal that comes from the navigation unit. Connect it to a 1~2kOhm resistor, which is then connected to ground.

Thank you for your responses. Yes cheesy blurry. The universal camera is cheap and worth a try. Thanks for the wiring information. I will try this and then let everyone know if it works. But you may not get a post until after July 4th weekend.

Burning Brakes
The backup cam quality is horrible on the 07-09. Wish I wouldv'e thought about just swapping camera before going thru full radio and backup cam swap. Ended up using an old clarion camera and dbl din from a spare car. The wiring for the speakers was the most time consuming. Overall happy, cuz finally have bluetooth and pandora controls.

Update
I followed the wiring by DundoukovEM - thanks. I originally used an AHD camera and this did not work. I realized that the camera technology needed to be the same as original. I had an old license plate camera - never used. Temporary install - worked great. So now I'm going to figure out the best way to wire this up and plug up the opening. Maybe next weekend - will let you know.

I'm still thinking about the replacement camera. I am not sure of the technology in my 2007 MDX w/nav. I see universal license plate HD cameras on amazon but they require an RCA connection. I looked at the DVD player under the driver's seat and there is no RCA connector.
Does anyone know what technology was used and/or what kind of universal camera to use? I don't know the technology on my old unused camera that worked for me but it did not have an RCA connector. My new concern is that it is not waterproof and so I would have to seal the back plate before screwing it back on again.

I completed the camera replacement and it looks really good. The pics are poor because of the sun, but the clarity and brightness are great. I cut the wire between the white connector and the camera and then soldered in the new camera wires. The camera is a no-name waterproof HD license plate camera with LED lights from Amazon for about $12. For the new camera I cut the wire at the RCA joints. I first fed the wire from the camera through the original camera back plate hole. I joined the yellow and green wires from the new camera to get both the picture and the frame lines.. Other wire connections as previously mentioned. I intend to silicone the exposed areas at the backing plate and further secure the wire on the outside with a split loom. At first I attached the license plate camera to the top nuts. But I found that there was little space between the camera and the rear hatch latch. I then moved the camera down to the lower nuts. Not ye
white connector behind rear inner panel
wire from camera through original camera back plate
Camera mounted on lower nuts
reverse pic (actual pic is much better - sun was strong)
t sure which is best.

The one I bought is this one
But any camera with
- HD
- waterproof
- night vision
- wide angle (170 degrees)
- LEDs to enhance the light in the right area
- license plate camera easiest to install
will work

I only used the wires on the vehicle side of the connector to match to the instructions. I used the matching wires on the camera side of the connector to make connections to the new camera. On the camera side of the connector there are doubles of everything and with different mixed up colors. Make sure the colors you use as per the instructions are the ones on the vehicle side. Each one on the vehicle side has 2 different colored wires on the camera side. Choose one. I wrote down all the colors of the pairing of the wires so I would not make a mistake. You are attaching to the wires on the camera side of the connector but are using the colors from the vehicle side of the connector.

Don't cut the wires on the vehicle side of the connector. Just cut the wires on the camera side of the connector and connect to the new camera. Again, choose one of the two that match the vehicle side of the connector color per the instructions. Use the connector to connect the new camera.

Three Wheelin'
My RCA cable is black on mine. I am going to a junk yard and pull an old MDX camera just in case because I don't really trust myself with this, lol
I also need to go buy a resistor because I don't have one of those. Which resistance did you end up using?
