Range is only at 279 miles?

So i recently purchased a 06 touring. My range is saying only 290miles. Is this correct? I have 2 other friends that have the MDX and there getting over 400 miles! Should i take it back to the dealer for them to check it out?

Have you changed your driving habits recently? Usually the calculated range is based on your recent gas mileage.

Well maybe it was due to the last owner. I recently purchased this vehicle certified used at a Acura dealer. I am quite concerned now about the milage. It says i'm avg. on ly 15mpg. I have it scheduled for repairs this tuesday.

As another poster asked....what is your actual mileage? Not what the computer says but what you manually calculate? Others have indicated that the computer can be well off the mark for various reasons.

That doesn't sound too far off the mark. I'd clock the actual mileage for a tank or two before getting too excited. I'm averaging around 18mpg with a mix of city and highway....all city and it would likely be closer to 16mpg. You do know how to calculate your mpg?

Check the transmission fluid. I flushed(3x3) recently and the MPG was improved a lot.

so i just brought the car off in the service department. I told them that i'm only getting roughly about 290 miles to tank. The freaking guy told me its the quality of the gas these days. I laughed at his remarks and said you gotta be kidding me right. So well see what they have to say tomorrow. So they gave me 09 TL for a loaner and i looked at the range on it and it says 425 miles. same 3.5L as our MDX.

You do realize the TL is a much lighter car than the MDX. Mileage has much more to do with other factors than the motor. The MDX has much more rotating mass(heavier wheels/tires), larger overall weight, less aerodynamic, etc. Are you primarly driving it in the city? If so 16 mpg is fairly normal, did you reset the mpg meter since you bought it? Have you checked your tire pressure? Checked/replaced the air filter? Do you take a lot of short trips? All of these things factor into fuel mileage.

Ok so my range has been fixed. Turned out they simply had to reset the trip computer.

Yup, the mpg meter is an average. The longer you dont reset the trip meter, the longer the average. The range is also based on that. Usually the starting range can vary, but as miles get logged it will adjust.

ok...so just for kicks....since resetting the computer has no effect on anything involving your actual gas mileage. (miles per gallon)..then you really did not have a clue what your actual gas mileage (miles per gallon) was and probably still don't?
