problem with green dvd update

i downloaded the newest green dvd update for my 2011 mdx, followed all the instructions to the "T", now it is constantly re-booting, showing the "starting the background software update. please wait a moment....". when it reboots, the audio and nav both shut off before returning. any thoughts?

Welcome to the forums.

This thread has been moved from the First Generation TSX Discussion (2004-2008) Forum to the appropriate subsection so you can hopefully get more help.

It shouldn't be an internet download for the Navi update?

You have to submit your VIN, Navi S/N, and database version first on the Acura Navi update disk website. You should get an update disk in the mail with a long Passcode to enter to start the update in an email. If you done anything other than those steps might be the reason for the fubar navi system.

Have you successfully done this recently? I'm contemplating updating the map this year or next.

I did the map update a few weeks ago for the 2nd time (1st time in 2014 when I purchased the 11 MDX used). No change in the +20 minute DVD load both times. Zero indication of what was updated with the database or firmware before/after both times also. All my presets, address book, and settings stayed the same afterwards. I updated because I have 5-6 trips planned out of state and wanted newer navi maps. It took about 4 hours for the XM satellite to finish the update after I ejected the DVD.

Hint: leave the MDX running or use a battery tender for the 20 min DVD load because that might kill your OEM battery like it did to me back in 2014. The 4 hour satellite download starts/stops every time you start the MDX to run your normal errands/work commute. No need for the MDX to idle in the driveway for 4 hours for the last step.
