Power steering problem

Has anyone had problems with power steering on '09 mdx. The dealer replaced the pump recently because of difficulty in turning steering wheel. I am noticing that the steering is starting to require more effort a few thousand miles after the repair. My mdx has 8000 miles on it. The fluid is at the correct level.

Ask the dealer to check your rack and pinon (also known as your gear box). I have had a similiar problem with two Acura's ('05 TL and '07 TL). Also check to see if there is foaming in your power steering reservoir as this will indicate that there is air in the system, which will need to be checked out. Other problems could include binding in your steering column. Most likely problem is your rack, though, epecially since there appears to be other people with the same issue. One last thing: does the steering appear to get worse when the car is warm? If so this could indicate that there is an issue with your serpentine belt or your serpentine belt tensioner. What sounds do you hear if any?

It's not a common proble by any means but our dealer has replaced a total of 3 power steering racks. This doesn't mean that this is the problem just shooting that out there. As 747pilot asked, does it make any noises? Squeeling is generally the belt and moaning is generally air getting into the system. With the 04-08 TL it's common for the o-ring on the pump inlet to go bad, causing air to pass into the pump. To be honest I would just take it back in to the dealer if it's a noticeable difference, afterall that is what your warranty is for.

I've been looking around for slightly used MDXs (2008 and 2009), and in just the 15 or so I looked at online, I saw one had the power steering pump replaced. That was according to a Carfax report.

Just had my 2nd power steering pump installed at 11,000 miles. Seems to be working fine so far.

My 07 feels tight at times, not always and it also makes a noise. if it worsens by my next oil change, I'll have the dealer take a look.

During AC Clutch Relay replacement, the dealer tech said my 2008 Power steering rack and power steering pump have slow leak.

To replace power steering rack is $2300 (parts and labor)
To replace power steering pump is $600 (part and labor)

Is this reasonable rate?
