I have 2 questions:

Does the keyfob power liftgate work if the doors are all locked? I have to unlock the car then that keyfob liftgate will work. If it can work, how do I program it to work while all doors are unlocked.


The car settings is set to self lock in 30sec based on the reading I am seeing on the dash. My wife is worried that what if she forgets the key in the car, will it know the key is in the car and not lock?

The lifegate only opens when the doors are unlocked. It might be just a safety feature to prevent accidental hatch openings because it can cause some damage to the MDX or other objects if it opens at the wrong time (closed garage door, brick wall, car parked behind you, et...). I've had an issue with my key fob getting pressed in my pocket walking away and the windows started to roll down a little bit (the hatch never opened). I got a key fob cover and it hasn't happen again.

I think the M.I.D. relock feature only works if you unlock with the fob and don't open the door within a pre-set time. The relock timer is cancelled once you open the door. You can lock (and set alarm) the MDX using the fob, lock the vehicle by turning the key in the driver's outside key hole, or manually locking and closing the door. The MDX only knows where the key is at if you put the key in the ignition and then the fob door (un)lock/hatch features are disabled. I haven't tried but the MDX should only unlock the doors if a door is already open.

The main way to lock you key(s) in the car is to manually lock and close the door. Maybe make some extra copies of the valet key and hide them wallets, purse, baby bag, other vehicles, etc...
