Please Help: Acura MDX 2001 Transmission Problem

Hi All...

New here and have a serious issue and need advice.

I bought a used 01 MDX about 6 years ago with high mileage. Up until now it has been rock solid and have not had any issues whatsoever. It has been a fantastic vehicle. It has 220,000 miles on it and the it runs and looks great.

I was driving down the interstate about 70 when it started slipping and the rpms went up. I pulled off and looked under the hood and there was transmission fluid all over the bottom of the car and around the transmission.

I am trying to figure out what the problem could be, I had it towed to a local repair shop and they told me it was the tranny. They quoted 4-5k and I called a friend of mine who has done all the work done to this vehicle and verified the price.

The repair shop added tranny fluid and told me it would be drive-able to my home 3 miles away. It was and I decided to seek a second opinion and they told me pretty much the same thing. I drove over 10 miles each way and took it up to 55 without incident.

Does anyone know what is going on here? What if I just keep driving it will the fluid just vent as it did when I was going down the road at 70 mph?

Am I risking a totally blown non drive-able car, what's the worse case situation? Nobody can tell me but it seems to run just fine as is....not a knowledgeable car guy but I just love this vehicle, would love to keep it if at all possible.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
