Automobile has a test of the BMWX5, MDX and Infiniti J35 on their site now. They picked the MDX.

Glad to see that they agree with most of the sentiments here. The MDX is the best all-rounder.

I own a BMW 330ci and an MDX, so I have a good perspective on the two manufacturers. I love the MDX for my family vehicle. Value and third row seat were important for me. I bought mine in 2009 and most extended reviews of SUVs ranked the MDX first, regardless of price. One of the reviews I read was based on a three-month driving test in Minnesota. I like having a BMW sedan and the MDX family vehicle - good combination. I wish I could switch to the TL for the sedan, but front-wheel drive on a performance sedan is a deal-breaker for me (no offense to TL owners - I've driven them as loaners and they are great cars).

That was my first MDX. I need to get some pictures of the new (used) one, and change it.

Phelps, try out the AWD version of the TL. I think you'll forget about the old FWD/RWD debate after flinging that car into a turn at a speed that should scare you.

I just came from a 2010 BMW X5 diesel. There are two things I miss about it, but many others that I don't.

What I miss:
1. The multi-contour seats are simply the best seats available from any manufacturer. The Acura seats are not very good.
2. The diesel mpg, at 26-28 mpg's hwy, is awesome for a vehicle that size

What I don't miss:
1. The growing proliferation of incompetent BMW technicians
2. The crappy paint (scratches with the slightest rub from anything)
3. The fact that mine was in the shop almost 40 days since last October
4. $130 oil changes
5. Cost of repairs out of warranty
6. etc...

I went with the MDX because of it's value, reliability, sweet v6, standard 3rd row seat, and unmistakeable looks.

Wow, 40 days in the shop since Oct. I got mine 11 MDX also in Oct and have 0 days in the shop! This is why I always go back to Honda or an Acura, due to their reliability and no fuss about driving in anything. Like many auto mags mention, did just everything right.

I agree with BOYCE.

I just traded in my 2007 BMW X5 for a 2010 MDX Tech. The BMW is such a rough ride, it was an SUV for 2 people. Anyone sitting in the bench seat would be uncomfortable. The MDX is def the best choice for a family. Ive only had it for a week now and its soo much more comfortable than my X5. It drives awesome, and quite frankly, its the best bang for your buck. I'm really happy with my decision to get rid of the X5 for an MDX.
