Low Battery Warning ... TSB ?

Low Battery Warning ... TSB ?
Just got a letter from Acura stating that my 2010 MDX should get sent back to the dealer for a free software update. To fix the low battery warning situation.
I do need this cos I've had the low battery warning 4 times in the last 4 months and the first time the dealer assured me there were no issues with my battery.
Qn is, is there any independent way to check if our battery is really weakening ? What if the software update masks a weakening battery ? We're supposed to be entitled to a free replacement Acura OEM battery if they do not hold their charge effectively within the first 48 months I think. Don't want to lose out on getting a new OEM battery free due to a software update that masks a weakening battery ....

Got same TSB for my 11 MDX.
You can have oil change places or auto parts stores check your battery's cranking amps.
Most oil change places will say you have low cranking amps cause they like to sell batteries.
Auto parts tend to say same to lesser degree.
Software update may not be that significant but Honda Acura has
hands tied to be on top of customer requests for a fix.
Often the amps to battery life is a flakey measure and
does not predict battery life well.
Just take it to dealer next time you need service.

I most cases the battery on your MDX will need replaced before your 4th year. Acura dealers are supposed to do a free battery test anytime you wish while the vehicle is still under warranty. I have been with Acura for 15 years and this has always been standard practice. Good luck!

The problem is that your 2010 is hiding a good battery by giving you inaccurate warnings. We require the opposite: a warning when we have a bad battery and the new "level of sense" should provide this.

This is not just an issue with the MDX but also, with the 2012 TL. My low battery display came on a few times and part of my problem is I don't drive my car alot in the winter. To solve my problem, I bought a CTEK3300 to keep my battery charged at all times but not because it was required but for the peace of mind.
