I get about 19mpg. 99% of that is city driving. The only problem w/ my calculation is I don't know how many gallons of gas I have when the LOW FUEL light comes on. Does anyone know.

16mpg is probably about right in city, at least for '07 and up, don't know about the earlier models. That's pretty much what the EPA figure is as I recall and the car mags usually test in the city at even less than EPA. These are certainly not economy cars and tend to get a little less mpg than competitors unfortunately.

we live in san francisco, in the midst of hills and every block stop signs and we get about 11-12 mpg gallon on pure SF city driving. on the freeway i get about 20 so our net average for the 800 miles on the car is 16.5. we drive pretty conservatively too.

16 is about right. If you drive 'consciously', you can get from 17-19. But then, it will take the fun off from driving the MDX!!

Keep in mind you have lower octane premium fuel and possibly 10% ethanol in your gas.

It also depends on how long your trips are... if you take a lot of short city trips your mileage is going to suffer.

I had 2005 MDX with 19" Acura's wheels, it was average around 15-16 mpg city driving. Now upgraded to 2010 MDX also with 19" Acura's wheels, the mpg about them same. With 235 hpw on the 2005 and 300 on the 2010, I have no complain here, just enjoying the new ride, a much better ride and much better sound system too.

There is getting to be more and more gasoline blends with oxygenates, especially ethanol here in the US ever since the mandate by the EPA for 6% to 10% oxygenates in gasoline in many areas of the country. I understand there are many different blends across the country, so you can go from one gas station to another across the street and they may be considerably different for the same grade fuel. Here in CO we have premium that is a couple points lower in octane (usually @ 91) because the ambient air is less dense than at lower elevations and so less tendency to knock/detonate, and any higher octane would be a waste. Less fuel is mixed with less air, and so we have about the same mpg here as anywhere else, but also about 15% less HP (~3% loss per 1000-ft altitude) in the CO plains, much less in the mountains of course. The "kick in the pants" from the engine on acceleration is really noticeable when you travel to a lower elevation region.
