Help me decide: Tech vs. Advance
Help me decide: Tech vs. Advance
Got two great quotes.
Tech for $42,165, including destination.
Advance for $46,565, including destination.
Will get the special financing (1.9% for 3-5 years.) Also, Acura sent me an email with an offer to pay my first months payment, up to $700. So, the actual cost of each car is more like $41,565 for the tech and $45,965 for the Advance.
Plan to own the car for at least 7 years, ideally 9. Will be driven by wife with the kids, around town mostly. Occasional road trips of 400 to 500 miles.
Live in SoCal.
Are the features in the Advanced really worth it?
Is the ride in "comfort mode" for the Advance any different than the way the Tech rides?
Is the perforated leather that much better?
Are the other "bells and whistles" on the Advance really just bells and whistles or do you think they actually provide some additional safety?
It's hard to tell from a mere test drive. Looking to hear from folks...Thanks!

Sounds like a good deal for either but if you don't get the advance then you will always be wondering. The additional cost over 7 years is minimal. I have the advance, live in So Cal and like gismos. CMBS may help you one day so it's a feature that is safety related. ACC can be a nuisance in So Cals traffic but is great when traffic is lighter. You can always select the regular cruise if you so desire. The blind spot indicator is also a safety feature and is a useful one if it only ever saves one attempted side-swipe.
Comfort and Sport mode are very similar withe the Sport being marginally harsher but on a blind test, it is tough to tell. Sometimes I drive for miles in Sport and never notice! I do, however, prefer the Comfort - as a writer once said, "Why buy a confortable car and then choose the Uncomfortable setting"?
The leather is a nice addition that contributes to the upscale MDX. If you are going to have leather then it's worth getting the best available.
Hope this helps.

since you plan to keep the car for a while it would be a good idea to get the fully equipped "Advance" model... the technology model is also very nice, it comes down to how much you want to spend & need
If you're going to keep it a while, then think ahead and see how much the Advance shocks cost to replace. Also the more technology the more things can go wrong. That being said, I'm seriously looking to get an Advance!
