Exclamation Engine Mounts

I have a 2003 MDX that I've been taking pretty good care of. I don't take it off road -- all highway miles. I just took it in for the 67,500 service checkup and was told that 2 of the engine mounts were cracked.

Does that sounds right for an expensive, premium vehicle like this to have engine mounts that crack?

On top of that, I have an extended warranty and am told that the engine mount cracks are considered wear and tear, so it's not covered.

Seems to me if something like an engine mount is a wear and tear item - an expensive vehicle like the Acura would be built with much stronger mounts! Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can share!!

In my experience, I don't have an MDX but I own an 2005 RL and i recently changed the mount for about $400 (1 front + 1 side). It is reasonable for the mount to break because my aunt has her LX470's engine mount broke when the mileage just reached 48000 miles.

crack? did they mean leak? I just had my front & side mount swapped on my '03. I didn't notice anything except for an occasional thump when came to stop. When I had my timing belt changed sure enough the side mount was completely blown, which usually means the front mount is bad as well (side mount sustains wear if the front mount has failed).. unfortunately the '03s need to be put up for the front mount.

The side mount should be around $80 and the front mount should be about $110. Check out the damage. If it's just cracking and the engine doesn't move much during braking or gear engagement then I would hold off. If the mounts are definitely blown & leaking then you should call around for the best price.
