Do all 2000-2006 have bad trannies?

I love the look of the 2000-2006 MDX but hear all the horror stories about transmission failure. My question is if all 6 years are plagued or was there a year that the transmission was revised and made reliable? Thanks for any info.

All implies Millions of cars sold are bad.

Honda isnt known for having the best trannies but to say "all" would be a fallacy.

Buying a used car is all based on luck and how well the previous owner treated the car.
if no service (fluid changes) were done to the tranny, I'd skip it and go for one that has complete services done to it.

Good luck

You are right. ALL would mean every single one. I was at the used car lot today and saw a 2005 mdx. I was just wondering if it had the same transmission as the previous years or are the 05/06 trannies more reliable.

I think another concern for some of those models around that same year was the radiator. A plastic piece could break, causing transmission fluid to be mixed with the coolant, or something along those lines.

I remember reading some posts about the problem, but after buying a 2012 never really paid more attention to that particular problem.

We have a 2001 that is on it's 4th transmission. The dealer i bought it from did me a big favor when #1 went out. He only charged me $1500 for labor & he talked Acura into supplying the transmission. #2 went out while i was working in Ocala. That' when i found out there had been a recall & the original dealer should not have charged me a penny! #3 went out 12,000 miles later while i was still in Ocala. I have nothing but praise for the Ocala, FL Acura dealer. Honest & professional! Acura stepped up to the plate, too. I will drive back to Ocala from Sanford to buy my next Acura. We are at 190,000+ miles now. The fourth tranny was installed around 112,000.

I just bought a 2003 with 126K and the tranny is original. It runs perfect and has all the service records. The info I find it was the 01, 02 that the problem was the worst in.

I had a 2006 MDX and drove it for 7 years with no issues. I was told by an Acura tech that 1st gen MDX had a weak component in the torque converter that usually shows up around 80,000 miles. Mine only had 53.000 miles at trade.
