Dealer says my AC compressor is seizing up
Says this will cost $1050.
1. Does this sound right?
2. Could a non-mechanic like me fix this?
3. If I could fix it, what would I need to get (parts) and what would I need to have (manual/instructions) to make it happen?
Thanks.. trying to save some money if it makes sense.

AC work is a PIA hands down, especially after a compressor fails because the system could be filled with metal.
I would recommend if you aren't trained to have it done professionally and ensure the parts and labor are warrantied.
The price usually is aligned with the quality of work, we have "certified Honda/Acura" service centers around my area and I would start there getting a number of quotes and then making my decision.

I'm a little late to the game, but I had my ac clutch seize recently, and replaced the compressor and clutch as one. AC is cold now, but intermittently gets slightly warmer. Not blowing warm air, but sometimes it will blow warm air and then get cool again, then get warmer, then cool again...have no idea why. Outside temp doesn't have anything to do with it does it?
Last two days my wife started it up with the ac in the morning it was 68 as opposed to 80+ in the past week since the compressor was replaced. And these past two days with the cooler weather, the ac started blowing ice cold right away in the morning...

The coils freezing could cause a lack of cooling. I've only seen the coils freeze after a longer run time, not ten minutes. I've also only seen the coils thaw after the car has been shut off for a while.
I would check the amount of refrigerant and also that it had been held under a vacuum for the recommended amount of time to remove any moisture, and to insure there are no leaks.
The system having been opened, you may have a slight leak or a seal which isn't sealed. You could also have an obstruction if the system was contaminated with dirt, metal, etc from the failure of the compressor.
Even though the compressor/clutch have been replaced, there is also the possibility that one of them is bad. Make sure the clutch is staying engaged when it is supposed to.

So it's probably not frozen coils then. If there is debris in the system, can it be evacuated or do you need to replace the expansion valve too?
