Buy extended warranty on 2007 MDX??

My 2007 MDX has 49k miles... so my factory warranty is about to expire. I haven't had any drastic issues with the car yet, but have had a few wararnty repairs... the biggest one was my entire stereo was replaced as the CD player died...

as the car ages over the next 4 years I worry about any huge $$ repairs... so I called around to get a few quotes from nearby dealers.

the best quote I received was $2300 for a 4 year / 48k warranty. ZERO deductible.

I will probabllyl drive 12k or so a year..so this will get me about a full 4 years of additional coverage...

2300 / 4 years = 575/year.

I'm wondering if I will have almost $600/year in repair bills or not???

I'm doubtful my engine or transmision will die...Honda/Acura isn't known for massive failures like this...but there cooudl be small stuff add up here/there.

anyoen think this is a good gamble or a bad one?

to me it seems a bit expensive..

thanks for any input!

Check online deals. There are some dealers that sell tons of warranties so their prices are lower.

i called Curry Acura in New York - they do a lot of online business.

Got the quote down to 1965 for the 4 yr / 48k / 0 deductible warranty.

you guys think that the MDX repairs that the warranty would cover will approach or near the 2k mark?

the logical side of me says to bank the money and not buy the warranty and self insure. will I reallly have $2000+ worth of WARRANTY work on the car? if I have $2000 worth of warranthy work, I simply break even. If I have say $2500 worth of warranty work, and I didn't buy hte warranyt, I'm really only out an extra $500 had I bought the warranty..

if I buy it and only have 1500 in work, I wasted $500.

the intangible thing is the "peace of mind" in knowing that *if* my SH-AWD / nav / tranmsission all took a crap at the same time and the ca rneeded $7500 in repairs..which si highly unlikely...but remotely posssible.. that I would be COVERED....

i'd be up $hit creek if I was hit with $5000+ in repairs.. and had no warranty...

so the other side of me..thinks... odds are I'll have SOME repairs that fall w/in the warranty...say it's 500-1000 dollars... even if that's the extent of it.. then I paid an "extra" $1000 for peace of mind...which over hte next four years is 250/year or about 20/month...

when you look at it like that, it seems not so bad...

i'm going to call my loccal dealer, see if they will meet or beat hte 1965 offer and then if they won't, i'll call Curry back up..and likely get the warranty...

I got the same quote a couple of months ago and jumped on it. We have both the Tech / Ent packages and even though it's a fair amount of coin, with all the electronics in the X, I figured it was a good idea. So we are covered until 99.7K or 2015. Time will tell if it was money well spent.
