I have a 2012 MDX that has started having problems connecting my IPhone (6s) through USB. I have had the vehicle since August 2017. The problems just recently started. It worked perfectly until last month. First it would connect some of the time. then it started going in and out. But now it does not connect at all. Has anyone had this issue?

 

I've never liked the iPhone connectors because it seems to be a point of failure at the cable and/or phone connection end. I have a case for my iPhone 6S Plus that converts the connection into an micro USB since I can find that connection pretty easy if I need to charge on the fly. Have you checked another iPhone cable to make sure it just not that? I would also try using a USB flashdrive with music in the MDX USB connection to see if you get the same intermittent connection issue. I ended up transferring all my music to a USB stick I leave plugged in 24/7 and just use the streaming bluetooth feature for my iPhone.

I have tried other lighting cables and IPhones, none play. But they will charge the phone. That just does not make sense to me!

 

I have the same issue with my Apple lightning cable where it is intermittent when I connect my iPad mini to my laptop and I get "not charging" or it fails to connect to iTunes. I sometimes have to unplug/plug to get it to recognize in iTunes. The same cable seems to charge just fine when I connect to wall charger. Lightening plug issues is one of the reasons why I converted my wife's and my iPhone to the micro USB connection (works every time with my laptop/iTunes). I've never tried to connect my iPhone 6S Plus with the USB plug. I'm thinking the later phones are pulling more power because of things like faster processor, apps, WiFi, and bluetooth. Maybe the MDX USB plug just can't keep up with the newer phone power requirements?

I would also try turning on Airplane mode to see if the iPhone connect and make sure no other 12v plugs are being used at the same time.
