2012 Acura MDX - How often to change spark plugs
So, I had the dealer replace my spark plugs when the MID displayed code 4 @ 109,000 miles. Starting at 135,000 miles, the dealership started telling me that I needed spark plugs. Two obvious things bother me about this. First, these should be 100k mile spark plugs. Second, the MID is not prompting me for new spark plugs. It has only been 26k miles since the plugs were changed. WTF is the dealer thinking?!
Trying to make money unless there was something specific you reported as an issue. Spark plugs should last 75k -105k easily. I'd personally find another mechanic and not rely on that dealer.
The iridium plugs last easily till 105K and can be run into the 125K range before you'll notice lower MPG from personal experience. Most dealers quote random services to make $$$$.
I know dealerships quote random services such as Fuel Induction Service and 15k mile Rear Differential Fluid replacements, but spark plugs after only 26k miles?!?! I read a post on another forum which suggested that some techs only replace the plugs in the front, because the plugs in the back are a pain in the ass to reach. I am wondering if they have a new tech who is picking up on some rough idling or something. Personally, I have not noticed any rough idling, bad gas mileage, or misfiring, and I am not getting any codes. I will talk to the dealership and let you guys know what they tell me. This should be an interesting conversation.

My dealership is always trying to do add-on services above and beyond M.I.D. services. Getting close to 500,000 miles between my 06 TSX, 08 RDX, and 11 MDX sticking to the M.I.D. schedule with (mostly) OEM parts. I would tell them "no thank you" unless you notice performance, start up, or mpgs issues.
