Spark plugs

Is there anything special about the spark plugs used on the TSX?

With not having to touch the spark plugs for 110k it would seem that regular spark plugs are not used. I always have used Bosch platinums on my Integra but I certainly couldn't get 110k miles out of them.

We have iridium plugs. Not bad.

Very special plugs. See:

Iridium is the most corrosion resistant metal known to man.

After reading that, I'm wondering if it's going to be mucho $$ to replace. The biproducts they remove to get the iridium are silver, gold, palladium and platinum. I rarely keep my cars for 110K miles anyway, so I guess it probably won't matter. These plugs do sound pretty sweet.

It's about $17 each online. Local dealers usually charge more.

do you think leaving the plugs in for 110K miles will make them real hard to remove? Should we all be doing a yearly remove the sparkplug and put anti-seize on them?

i would recommend to pull them, regap and antiseeze.

I inspected mine at 30K, no wear, good color and correct heat range. They
will last 100k.

But gap was off from factory and my idle improved.
Spec is .044, one was .039, two correct, one .047.
I set them all at .043 and they'll wear into .044.

They are not expensive, $35 for four on Ebay. I will replace some day.

I got some Denso IK20 in case I wanted to change them
when I pulled them at 30k, I like Denso products but didn't install them
because they were just a little shorter. Denso are more expensive.

I recently purchased a 2004 Acura TSX with only 38,000 miles on it. I decided to change the spark plugs and the stock NGK`s I pulled out were thrashed. Iridium plugs will not last 110,000 miles. You cant believe everything you read in the owner`s manual. Heck, I still change my oil/oil filter every 3,000 miles even though the manual says to change the oil at 5,000 miles; filter at 10,000 miles.

May I suggest you quit wasting oil until you've had an oil analysis done which vindicates your schedule.
Unless you're driving hard and short trips (less than 5 miles/10 mins moving/sat in tailbacks), and using the cheapest dino oil you can find, then you're not adhering to the severe maintenance and can easily do the 5K, although I'd argue the filter gets changed along with the oil.

My engine oil is as black as coffee after 3,000 miles, which is enough clarification for me. I do not drive it hard. However, I do drive moderate distances in commercial areas with lots of stops on a daily basis. I actually want my car to last; especially since I doubt the previous owner of the vehicle cared to maintain it up to it`s standards. Most people dont even do the little things like changing oil or replacing spark plugs, and then they wonder why their vehicle has problems in the long run. I would rather waste oil than waste an engine.

All oil goes dark after a short period of time; it's a naturally occurring process (organic and syn.). The need for a 3000 mile oil change went out years ago; it's a testament to the oil change industry that people still hang on to that urban myth. The service intervals for my 05 are actually every 10K miles (right from the maintenance manual that came with the car) and my 07 will I assume, with the maintenance calculator, be even longer (my wife drives 700 miles a week all highway). I've encountered more than enough well researched data to convince me that the change to longer intervals is more than justified by basically better oil and filter technology. Feel free to change the oil (and filter)as often as you like, but you may want to escape the 70's some day and rethink the policy. For your car to last, which I assume is something we all want to pursue, may I suggest you change your oil less often and with the money you save, change to synthetic oil. I'm confident that's a change that would actually make difference 100K miles down the road.

Just changed mine...

$11 each out the door from a local auto part store.

$11 + tax from Kragen.

$20 + tax from the Stealership.

The tip from the old plugs looked like new but it was leaking a little bit of oil or gas through the casting... So... I think it was better to change the plugs.

I posted some pictures but I don't know where they are now.
