2010 MDX power steering problem

my Acura MDX 2010 gives moaning or whining like noise while I gently turns the steering wheel .This has started two months before and now it worsened. There is no oil leak on the floor so far.Its severely cold here in Houston and whining noise comes especially in the morning. Can anybody explain the reason and how it can be rectified?

O-Ring failure at the plastic inlet of the P/S pump is known to fail an cause air leaks... Those leaks will create whining noise, Changing it its pretty easy and inexpensive.

I would also change out the power steering fluid. Acura states the fluid is "lifetime"; but, I think their definition of "lifetime" is only 100,000 miles or 6-7 years. I changed my power steering fluid at 100K on my TSX/RDX and there was instant improvement on steering response and feel. I'm due to replace my P/S fluid for my MDX on my next service.

The whine could be from the inlet o-ring, especially with the cold weather, but it's more than likely bad fluid.
Replace both. You can turkey baster the res, but you're only touching 1/8th or less of the fluid.

I recommend lifting the front wheels to take it easy on your rack. Put cardboard and shop towels down.
Turkey baster fluid from res, remove return hose from res and put into a bottle (1/2 gal or bigger)
Turn car on and turn wheel from lock to lock until fluid stops flowing (don't try to run it dry). Turn car off.

Return hose to res, fill it up.. let it cycle.. and top off the res (to max line). Don't forget to put res back on clips and replace top.
You'll need to do this 2 or 3x to really get the system cleaned out, but one time is enough to get it close to spec.

Does anyone know the part # for oring? Going to flush fluid and would like to change oring. Currently hard to turn at stop and starting to make noise. 07 mdx with 142,000 miles.

Change the fluid first. Mine started whining at 100K once heated up. Dealer quoted $700 to replace pump/pulley. They also said lifetime fluid when asked for flush first.. Bought a few pints of Honda PS fluid (must be Honda compatible) did a suck/fill about 6 times with 4 lock-to-lock turns between. Problem solved and still good 4K miles of hot summer driving. I used Napa Honda-specific fluid @ $5 pint.

I’m going to do both. I got orings and new fluid as well. I raised the front wheels and turned wheels lock to lock about 10 times. I saw a couple small bubbles but not much, no leaks anywhere. I picked up 3 bottles of 12 oz Honda ps fluid. If that doesn’t work then I’ll replace the pump.

Got new orings and fluid replaced. I couldn't believe how dirty the old fluid was. The reservoir has a build in filter and it had a bunch of dirt in it. I removed it and flushed it with mineral spirits before adding new fluid. I will suck out fluid from reservoir with turkey baster in a couple of weeks again and refill. Of the three bottles of fluid I used 1.5.

Seems to be working a little better. The whining noise is gone for now.
