2010 MDX - Fan noise from the back?

Sometimes I hear a noise that sounds like a fan that seems to be coming from behind the driver's seat. It happens with the heater/AC on or off, and it's not related to the speed of the vehicle or the engine rpm's. It's not air coming from the rear vent either.

I can't say for sure it's behind me - low frequency sounds can be hard to localize - but that's my impression. Can anyone tell me what this is?

same here...

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I hear the exact same thing in my MDX (also 2010). I would love to know what is causing this 'fan' noise.

If you can hear the HDD then you have way bigger prolems than a fan noise.

And where exactly is the HDD installed in the vehicle?

My understanding was that in 2010, the HDD is installed in the front dash. So, if you were to pull out the radio from the dash, you can access the HDD.

Could it be the "fan" for the ventilated seats for CA spec MDXs?

When I took a test drive using the ventilated seats, the noise sounded like a open window or road noise - very annoying.

Question

I have a similar issue with my 2010 MDX. There is a low level buzzing noise that I can't localize. It is not related to speed or the ventilation system. I did not hear it the first couple of months of driving the car but now I hear it all the time. The radio will drown it out. Hubby does not hear it but he has selective hearing anyway!! Any ideas?

The only noise I hear that I think could be what you're talking about is when I have my ventilated seats on high.

Other than that I do not hear any noise from the rear.
