2009 MDX and Remote Starter

Planning on getting a 2009 MDX toward the end of the year and the dealer remote starter seems rather limited compared to after market (200ft range, need to stop the engine before unlocking doors, pricey!). Anyone have any recent experience installing an after market on the 2nd Gen MDX? I saw some older post but doesn't seem like anyone have installed one from Viper or other brands.

Any suggestions on brands or where I can get this installed would be appreciated. I live in the Maryland area.

...I was going to ask the same question

Anyone??

...i read something (from acura so its biased) that it affects the security system with an aftermarket? My wife's highlander has one and her system seems to be working just fine.

Have an 08 TL Type S, just had a Python alarm with remote start installed and the factory alarm works just fine, especially if the installer uses XPRESSKIT XK01 kit intergrates with Acura's system quite well, by the way if you did not know DEI is the company that owns Viper, Python, and Clifford so you have at least 3 good choices, don't have much experience with other brands, make sure you're installer retains all factory options like memory seats, Welcome Driver1 & 2, window roll down with key fob, etc. and that the aftermarket alarm does not overide Acura's system, also make sure they order the correct by-pass module for the imobilizer, so you don't have to hide an Acura key that has the chip in it to start the MDX.

Unhappy MDX Remote start

So I blindly went and got the Acura factory remote start for my MDX because an Acura mechanic told me that that it works just like any other remote start and I hate the fact that you have to shut off the vehicle and then start it again with the Acura Key . Does anyone know if this system could be modified/reprogrammed to allow for a user to unlock the doors, put foot on the break, place key into the ignition and go without having to restart?

I was told at my dealers the reason the Acura starter did that was so the key [chip portion] of the ignition would not be compromised. I had it installed anyway. It is not a big deal when compared to 18* temperature outside and balmy 74 inside the car.

Isn't this bad for the cars though, starting them twice every time you have to use them?

Remote starters and one touch start systems (which the 2nd gen MDX has) don't get along well. Some have been installed with no problems but many people regret having them installed when they start having issues with memory systems. Don't expect Acura to be too helpful if you have electrical issues and an aftermarket remote start.

This is good to know in advance. I was looking at getting this option when I purchase my MDX but will probably opt out of it. I have an aftermarket alarm/remote start system and it works like a charm and I have never had any issues with it. Love being able to just unarm/unlock the door and then insert key and push brake pedal and drive off.
